The Hope Center for College, Community and Justice at Temple University is seeking an Associate Director of Operations to join our rapidly growing team. We are a national action research center that is redefining what it means to be a student-ready college with a movement centering #RealCollege students' basic needs. We believe that students are humans first and that their basic needs are central conditions for learning. Our work is firmly grounded in rigorous science, thoughtful practice, and social justice. Based in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, we enjoy the benefits of working in a top research university while also collaborating with colleges and universities in communities across the nation.

The Hope Center is an uncommonly diverse organization, integrating high-quality research with practitioner-focused technical assistance, education and training services, policy analysis, advocacy, and communications. The Center's matrixed structure is complex and requires careful management and a strong focus on policies and procedures. The team is distributed across the nation, and at least 25% of the employees work remotely. Sophisticated technology-driven project management is required.

The Associate Director of Operations will be primarily responsible for internal and external facing responsibilities, ranging from project management to administration (information technology, reporting, facilities). They will be instrumental in ensuring consistent and effective management of project management and operational functions including office management. The Associate Director of Operations will also play a critical role to advance the organization's consistency of projects, growth, and communication with internal staff and external partners. They must thrive while handling a variety of constituencies, managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and achieving strong outcomes in a complex environment with multiple shifting priorities.

Subject matter expertise will greatly enhance the Associate Director's success. The preferred candidate will possess a deep understanding of the subject matter expertise central to The Hope Center; in particular an understanding of how anti-poverty focused mission-driven work integrates with an emphasis on scientific evidence.

This position will be a part of the Sustainability team driving the overall strategy and ensures high-quality operational outcomes for the organization on a local, regional, and national basis. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of professional experience in nonprofit or academic organizations with annual budgets of at least $2M. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.



Required Skills & Abilities:

*Program Leadership and Management: The Associate Director of Operations will have taken a hands-on approach in leading a variety of initiatives in a nonprofit or academic setting supported by a budget of at least $2M/year. This speaks to the scale and complexity of the work. The ideal candidate will have a track record of effectively leading a performance-based and outcome-based program and staff. They will have developed and operationalized strategies that have taken a program or organization to the next stage of growth.

*Exceptional Communication and Influencing Skills: The Associate Director of Operations will have strong written and verbal communication skills. They will be a persuasive, credible, and polished communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills. This individual must work collaboratively with internal as well as external partners and other organizations, providing exposure for program impact.

*Unwavering commitment to excellence in organizational and project management with the ability to achieve strategic objectives and manage a budget.

*Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people

Preferred:

*Field-Specific Expertise: The Associate Director of Operations will benefit from experience working in an anti-poverty or related organization that confers subject matter expertise in understanding how research, policy, and practice workflows occur to advance the mission.

This position is located in Philadelphia. The Associate Director of Operations must commit to working in the office, on site, at least 3 days a week.

This is a grant funded position.
