Job Overview

Ascend Learning is seeking a motivated UX professional with strong research and design skills for the position of User Experience Designer in our Burlington, MA office.

Responsibilities

• Be a key member of the centralized UX / UI team at growth-oriented, user-focused company.


• Support user-centered design process by conducting research, applying best-practice design principles, and developing software design wireframes and interactive prototypes for complex software systems.


• Collaborate with team members, stakeholders and users to design and build solutions using design prototyping tools and design pattern libraries.


• Use strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to deeply understand complex systems and translate them to intuitive user flows and designs.   


• Support UX Lead in all phases of our best-practice design process, which includes using strong communication and leadership skills – along with design capabilities – interfacing with users, stakeholders, developers and management. 


• Support design team members and other project contributors to determine the right UX activities and deliverables for various types of projects.  

 Required Skills

• Experience facilitating user research and design of complex software systems, web applications and mobile applications. 


• Experience developing best-practice design artifacts and deliverables including workflows, personas, journey maps, wireframes, interactive design prototypes.


• Experience with front-end development frameworks, languages and libraries such as Angular Material and Bootstrap.


• Experience working with interactive wireframing tools like Axure and Figma


• Experience with agile software development practices and release of commercial software products.


• Working experience with WCAG (508) compliance.


• Working experience with build/release process of UI components with Angular Material and other tools.


• Vertical specialization and product design experience; having worked on specialized systems such as adaptive learning, online education, advanced analytics, and products healthcare technologies, monitoring etc.  and


• Passion and the ability to learn new processes and skills, and work to continuously improve the UX team’s skills and knowledge through your work and experiences.

 Skills and Abilities 

• Ability to plan and conduct user research to understand user needs and validate designs through user testing using wireframes and interactive prototypes. Candidate must provide a strong portfolio of work experience demonstrating user research findings, interaction design deliverables, visual design deliverables and other common design artifacts.


• Ability to develop multiple design concepts and iterate quickly with low-fidelity interactive prototypes.


• Willingness to contribute ongoing maintenance of Ascend Learning’s Design System, including visual and interactive standards for component libraries and style guides. 


• Willingness and ability to progress the organization’s user-centered design processes by demonstrating and teaching others through the work you do.


• Knowledge of and ability to schedule, define, plan and execute user research, including but not limited to: participant recruitment and scheduling, creation of research guides, ability to identify user behavioral patterns and synthesize findings.


• Ability to work well independently and function effectively during ambiguous tasks.


• Strong communication and collaboration skills.


• Analytical thinker and problem solver.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree with 3 – 5 years of experience in Information Technologies, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Industrial Design OR Graphic/Visual Design field.
