We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer in the Exton, PA area to develop the next generation of hardware for our metrology products. The new hire will work on a multi-disciplinary team designing precision hardware in support of our Laser Tracker and Tracer product lines.

How you will make a difference:


  • Key individual contributor in the mechanical design of new metrology instrument products

  • Research and design structural, thermal management, optomechanical and electrical mounting components and covers for precisions equipment

  • Analyze designs using FEA for bending, stress, vibration, and thermal effects.

  • Create system error budgets.

  • Develop and coordinate with vendors to provide finished work that meets requirements.

  • Develop assembly, calibration and compensation techniques.

  • Perform hands-on assembly, testing and troubleshooting.

  • Determine root cause and corrective action of system failures.

  • Develop and coordinate with vendors to provide finished work that meets requirements.

  • Other mechanical design and analysis responsibilities may be added in the future as business conditions evolve

This position requires:


  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant precision machine design experience.

Technical Skills:


  • Precision machine design and evaluation for metrology, machine tool or similar applications

  • Finite element analysis (FEA) using Solidworks Simulation or ANSYS

  • Mechanical design using Solidworks

  • Design of injected molded parts

  • Drawing generation in accordance with ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Design and analysis of thermal management for electromechanical systems

  • System error budgets and tolerance stack ups

Bonus Skills:


  • Industrial design

  • Kinematic component design

  • Motor and Bearing design

  • Optomechanical component design

  • Servo control and tuning

  • Dynamic system modeling using MATLAB

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C# and/or LabVIEW

Physical Requirements:

  • Continuous lifting of very lightweight materials, some lightweight lifting, and occasional lifting of average to heavy weight materials of over 60 lbs. Occasional pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing and upper body and arm rotation. Some bending, stooping and standing. Continuous sitting. Occasional use of hazardous chemicals
