Job Summary:


This individual will serve as the Director of Product Development to coordinate and manage new and existing product lines through all phases of product development, integration, and delivery processes. Experience leading small teams in product development and/or embedded system manufacturing is necessary along with strong organizational and project management skills. The individual should be comfortable working in a multidisciplinary role alongside engineering, internal stakeholders, and quality team members throughout the software and device development process. Ideal candidates will be self-starters, comfortable working both independently and as a key member leading a small team in a dynamic and quick-paced environment.

Support translation from the business vision to the tactical implementation through establishing overall objectives and long-range goals of the organization, then translating them into team level incremental deliveries. Establish software engineering department standard practices and departmental instructions. Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to companywide policies and procedures, as needed. Provides guidance to subordinate managers based on organizational goals and company policies. Attends engineering program reviews and audits; acting as liaison between engineering and customers/other departments. Provides technical consultation. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develop strategies for hiring, training, development, and succession planning to build, manage and empower a high caliber, collaborative organization that promotes excellence and rewards results.

  • Implement best practices surrounding automation, standardization, cybersecurity, systems infrastructure, monitoring, configuration management, and software product releases.

  • Keeps abreast of new technologies and new techniques. Identifies technology development requirements for the department.

  • Has overall responsibility for the software department's cost, technical and schedule performance. Must ensure that personnel have proper tools, training and experience to do their jobs.

  • Directs and controls organizational activities through lower level managers and direct staff. Mentors direct subordinates.

  • Coordinates with business area leaders to proactively identify technology, staffing, schedule and budget requirements and to mitigate any risks.

  • Acts as liaison with other managers and customer representatives concerning projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, or contractual clarification.

  • Participates in the performance evaluation process and recommends salary adjustments and personnel actions to include hiring, discipline, recognition and termination. Motivates, delegates, coaches and trains subordinates.

  • Attends briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives, when necessary.

  • Participates in customer contract negotiations.

  • Directs fact-finding in support of proposal development, to include cost and schedule estimates.

  • Manages overhead resources: labor and expenses.

  • Supports the leadership in the day-to-day activities of the organization.

  • Directs the continual developments of the organization in terms of personnel, training, process definition/execution, and discipline.

  • Resolves conflicts/problems at all levels within the organization.

  • Participates in total quality management/continuous process improvement teams.

  • Manages supervisors and the software engineering staff.
