This person is responsible for supporting aerospace electronic hardware development, including design, integration, test, analysis, and documentation. This includes analog and digital circuit designs and assemblies intended for qualification in aerospace environments meeting industry standard environmental and electromagnetic compliance requirements. Example applications involve active vibration control, motor control, power electronics, sensor interfaces, embedded microcontrollers, communication busses, electromagnetic filtering, and lightning protection

Responsibilities

  • Design or update printed circuit board assemblies, using schematic capture tools
  • Perform analysis of electrical circuits using electronics simulation tools
  • Create harness schematics for aerospace applications applying proper EMI and environmental shielding/protection
  • Participate in component layout reviews applying DFM best practices
  • Write and review electronic hardware requirements
  • Perform design verification tests on printed circuit board assemblies
  • Diagnose electrical problems using oscilloscopes, DMMs, differential probes, spectrum analyzers
  • Provide feedback on electronics test results and troubleshooting
  • Document and execute qualification tests with a focus on EMI/EMC, Lightning, and Power Input
  • Participate on team projects which involve the collaboration with engineers and technicians
  • Work to support project teams and execute high-level direction and guidance
  • Establish and maintain communications with functional and programmatical leadership to assure efficient workflow and foster or encourage a mutual exchange of new ideas, concepts, or technologies with other company personnel
  • Demonstrate professional growth through additional informal study, participation in seminars, short courses, and technical society activities
  • Some travel (1-2 weeks once or twice a year)


    Qualifications

    REQUIRED

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering with at least 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in the following areas: electrical circuit design and analysis, power subsystem development, digital systems, signal processing, electronics packaging & thermal considerations
  • Knowledge of electronic hardware requirements development and verification
  • Experience with hardware/software integration and test
  • Well versed in use of Cadence Allegro, OrCad, and PSpice tools
  • Must have a strong experimental background in testing of analog and digital electronics
  • Must have the capability to perform and/or direct individual unsupervised work
  • Oral and written communication skills must be clear and concise
  • Must have a strong analytical capacity
  • Must be able to develop and communicate near-term team plans
    PREFERRED

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience with designing electronics to meeting military and civil aerospace specifications, such as MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, DO-160, etc.
  • Board-level electrical system architecture design
  • Experience with DC brushless motor control and commutation
  • Experience with board level debugging using in-circuit emulators (ICE), and other hardware/software analysis tools
  • Knowledge of DO-254 design assurance methods
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Design for X (Cost, Manufacturing, Reliability, etc.)
  • Technical writing skills
