Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive sourcing support to Proterra’s Director of Sourcing and other site leadership team members. In this position, you will be responsible for strategic supplier management at Proterra.  You will also oversee the Supply Chain readiness for battery technology programs for either packs, modules, cell and non-cell. You will work closely with materials, engineering, and production to execute to the timelines of such programs. 

About the Role- You will:


  • Lead Commercial relationship for the supply base on either modules, packs, cell, non-cell and Proterra Charging systems suppliers and partners

  • This position will be heavy on program management battery and Charging supply

  • Manager will lead SC efforts to support +9 Variants and 12 product launches

  • Manager will be involved Stage 0 and earlier discussions to assure the commercial side is supporting from the inception of the program.

  • Support the Energy system supplier partner strategy and support the customer service field and infrastructure teams with existing suppliers

  • Support complexity and multiple configurations – Every series contract, for example, adds another configuration

  • Support cost down initiatives with engineering and finance teams by design modifications, resourcing and pure negotiations with supply base

  • Collaborate with Battery engineering on new product development activities to support projects, align design with our strategic supply base, and deliver products on time and at or below cost

  • Ensure on time supply chain execution for all Battery technology programs

  • In charge for sourcing deliverables in stage gate project development with engineering

  • Maintain knowledge of market industry trends within area of expertise and communicate potential impact on business.

  • Monitor supplier market characteristics regularly; identifies opportunities resulting from market shifts and takes advantage of such shifts.

  • Develop reports that measure performance and drive change throughout the supply chain.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • You will report to the Director, Sourcing and collaborate with other Sourcing team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles, CA and Greenville, SC.

Your Experience Includes:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering (or equivalent experience)

  • 1 – 5 years’ of experience in Engineering or high-tech industry

  • 1 – 5 years’ of experience in Project/Program management in industry or academic coursework

  • Strong in MS Office Software

  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems in academic or industry setting

  • Previous experience or alternatively, a special combination of education and industry experience in the areas of program management, manufacturing.

  • Ability to create and report key performance indicators for projects. Track and clearly communicate progress by program.

  • Ability to build relationships and partnerships to collaboratively execute business strategies

  • Strong analytical, mathematical, reasoning, problem solving and organizational and project management skills

You might also have:


  • Master of Science/Management (Preferred but not needed) or any other advanced degree

  • Previous Electric vehicle industry and charging system experience

  • Academic coursework or Industry experience in Financial accounting and Negotiations
