Quality and Continuous Improvement Manager at Matthews International

POSITION SUMMARY


The Quality and ContinuousImprovement Manager will be responsiblefor Quality and process engineering personnel and related programs. This includes but is not limited to: employee management and engagement, quality systems and standards, continuous improvement activities utilizing lean concepts, and new equipment/process integration. Work collaboratively with Facilities Engineering and Production Management to maximize efficiencies, achieve annual targets, and improve the overall safety and product consistency in the plant. The expectations below are not meant to be all-inclusive but to highlight major areas of responsibility that are accomplished in this role either personally or through the team.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Manages and leads the inspection, repair, and Process Engineering / Continuous Improvement departments.

  • Follows all safety rules, promotes a safe work environment, and recommends changes/additions to safety policies.

  • Ensures proper staffing to effectively perform all functions. This includes having the right skill mix to cover all areas of responsibility.

  • Be an active member of the management team for the site that develops and executes annual plans.

  • Keeps management and others abreast of significant issues or developments.

  • Supports other departments/functions as needed to ensure operational efficiencies.

  • Develops team via internal and external educational opportunities.

QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Resolves external quality issues. This may include direct customer contact, interaction with the sales team, or others close to the issue to resolve and drive permanent corrective actions.

  • Develops, implements, and manages the Quality Management System.

  • Working with peers in the plant management team, establish quality improvement strategies and plans.

  • Ensures internal audits of existing processes are being performed and changing/evaluating as necessary to continually meet/exceed customer expectations.

  • Trains department supervisors and operators to ensure that standards are understood

  • Sets quality standards in conjunction with the product management team as new products are introduced.

  • Maintains accurate documentation of quality standards, work instructions, and other related documentation.

  • Develops methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of products.

  • Performs root cause analysis on product/process related issues.

  • Utilizes risk assessment tools (e.g., PFMEAs) to identify actions to reduce risks.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Leads key Lean Manufacturing projects, providing leadership in developing practical solutions to complex analytical problems.

  • Improves production processes using Kaizen events, process mapping, 5s, or other lean tools.

  • Identifiestrends and process variations for future improvement initiatives.

  • Trains all personnel on best practices, new standards, and act as an advocate for positive change.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS


  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field

  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master's) preferred

  • 10+years of progressive experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 3-5+ years in a supervisoryrole (direct or indirect)

  • Lean training and experience required. Green belt or higher is a preferred qualification.

  • A proven track record of implementing improvements.

  • Experience with customer interaction and problem resolution.

  • A high degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications

  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)

  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts

  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients

  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.

  • Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management

  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting
