Role Description

The Chemical Hazard Communication/Regulatory Specialist is responsible for developing and maintaining SDSs for Zoetis products and intermediates, and for other materials, such as raw materials, as needed. SDSs are developed for many worldwide locations in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This role supports product labeling teams when needed. Responsibilities also include support for chemical regulatory monitoring teams and global chemical compliance efforts. The role will report to the Sr. Manager, Toxicology/Hazard Communication, as part of the corporate Global Environment, Health and Safety team.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Prepare and maintain commercial and R&D SDSs for worldwide locations using SDS authoring software.

  • In coordination with Zoetis Tech and Digital function, provide administrative support for SDS information technology platforms (e.g., SDS authoring software and internal/external SDS databases) and interact with platform vendors as needed.

  • Update and maintain written SDS authoring procedures and associated SDS IT processes.

  • Assist manufacturing and R&D colleagues when needed with raw material SDS interpretation and integration with the raw material SDS database. Provide SDS and system training when needed.

  • Keep current with changing SDS regulations and apply accordingly.

  • Assist labeling teams with required hazard (GHS) label information.

  • Monitor State, Federal and International regulatory requirements such as EPA, TSCA, GHS, OSHA, WHMIS, CLP, PCN, REACH, Prop 65, SCIP, WEEE, and others.

  • Assist with management of chemical regulatory monitoring and REACH programs.

  • Assist with the company's hazardous material transportation compliance efforts.

  • Respond to internal and external customer requests.

  • Represent EHS on cross-functional teams such as chemical regulatory monitoring, dangerous goods compliance, product labeling, and product development teams.

  • Provide support to EHS and other colleagues requesting hazard information or evaluations for new raw materials.

  • Provide support to EHS and other colleagues requesting information for source change and due diligence requests.

Education and Experience:


  • Minimum education of bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Health and Safety or other relevant discipline, and 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in SDS development and chemical regulatory compliance.

  • Knowledge of relevant state, federal, and international laws and regulations governing SDS development and chemical regulatory compliance such as OSHA Hazcom, WHMIS, EU CLP, TSCA, REACH, etc.

  • Experience with hazardous materials transportation is required.

  • Experience with SDS development through authoring software required, with experience in 3E Generate preferred.

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical/animal health business operations is a plus.

Technical Skills Requirements:


  • Good working knowledge of global SDS and chemical regulations.

  • Strong oral and written communication and organizational development skills. Self-motivated, self-starter and ability to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment is essential.

  • Proficiency in English, written and oral, required. Other regional language skills desirable.
