Garmin is seeking a full-time Aviation Datalink Systems Engineer focusing on air-to-ground communication systems.  Garmin is looking for highly motivated individuals that have the experience and skills to research, design, develop, test and support these systems.

Responsibilities


  • Show compliance to industry standards via traceability matrices, reports, and compliance statements.

  • Work with regulatory (e.g. FAA, EASA, ANAC) and industry bodies (e.g. ARINC, SITA) to learn and incorporate new and evolving air-to-ground communication systems.  

  • Engineering support of product development and testing.

  • Perform bench testing of interfaces or functionality to verify system operation per requirements.

  • Work with network hosts to ensure Garmin’s systems are being properly supported.

  • Work with OEMS/customers to provide technical support.

  • Provide technical content for system design/description documentation.

  • Support airworthiness certification testing for OEMS.

  • Work with software and database teams to make sure designs are correct, up-to-date, and complete.

  • Capture scope, lead planning and track progress of systems engineering activities in a comprehensive schedule.

  • Effectively communicate development status to customers. 

  • Manage risks and opportunities.

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related technical discipline AND a minimum of one-year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Other qualification: 


  • Strong analytical skills.  Can use complex data to drive decisions, problem solve, and draw logical conclusions. 

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and can work independently, within a multi-organization team.

  • Work with customers to define requirements, identify system application issues, and resolve technical issues.

  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Having focused education or experience with communication or networking systems.

  • Experience with air-to-ground datalink communication systems (e.g. VDLM2, CPDLC, ACARS, etc.).

  • Experience with aviation design assurance processes for system, software or hardware (ARP 4754, DO-178, DO-254).

  • Aviation flight or operations experience.

  • Experience with DOORs or other requirement management tools.
