Payroll and Tax Analyst

Job Overview:

To continue our standard of excellence, Piedmont is seeking a reliable, motivated and knowledgeable Payroll and Tax Analyst to join our team . The Payroll and Tax Analyst is responsible for analyzing current C ompany liabilities, reconciling to process tax filings and auditing employee level records. The successful candidate has strong local tax knowledge, including employee set up and reporting and possesses a Bachelor's d egree or equivalent relevant payroll tax experience. This position reports to the Payroll Manager .

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze current liabilities owed by the Company

  • Reconcile to process tax filings with a primary goal of ensuring the Company pays the correct amount of taxes

  • Audit employee level records to ensure all employees are paid accurately

  • Assist with processing payroll, maintaining accurate records of tax withheld, payments and reporting

  • Reconcile withholding unemployment and other payroll related tax returns and work with federal, state and local tax agencies on audit requ ests

  • Monitor system controls of tax calculations, prepare and c omplete investigations, provide tax explanations to employee inquiries and maintain related accounting information

  • R eview and confirm accuracy of W2 data at year-end, prepare and assist with year - end and quarter-end filings and processing, validate tax configurations and audit payroll records for accuracy

  • Seek ou t continuous process efficiencies for improvements, solicit team f or feedback, participation and work with other projects

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant payroll tax experience

  • Four years' experience working with large volume payrolls

  • Experience with working in a multi-state environment

  • Strong local tax knowledge, including employee set up and reporting

  • Understanding of end-to-end tax functional processes a nd how the tax functional processes integrate with the overall end - to - end processes

  • Moderate skills in Microsoft Excel

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office S uite

  • Strong initiative, sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple projects

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to complete projects timely and accurately

  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills

  • Ability to work with others in a fast paced dynamic environment

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team orientated while building strong working relationships

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Work d ay Payroll

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel

Work Environment:

  • Standard office environment, use of computers and other office equipment

  • Willingness for flexible schedule to meet processing demands

  • Exempt

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional lifting to 25 pounds
