Overview:

Health Plan Analytics offers innovative solutions that provide actionable insights to internal and external business partners and customers that help reduce health costs, improve outcomes, provide financial security and measure/forecast business performance. The Provider Contracting and Network Performance Experience Group drives the vision and delivery of solutions to maximize healthcare affordability through the provider contracting process. This role will lead data science teams managing performance from our provider partners and networks. This includes the identification of higher performing facilities and professionals to enable steerage, the design of competitively affordable networks, achieving value through current and future provider collaborations and automated techniques to discover cost savings opportunities. Additionally this role will oversee an advanced analytics roadmap including working with the Data Science Center of Expertise to progress technical and methodological capabilities using the Analytics Platform. This role is an opportunity for a proven leader in the field who can define and build out the advanced capabilities in predictive analytics, machine learning and AI that will lead Cigna to achieving our goals. This role will work collaboratively with peers across Global Data & Analytics team as well as business stakeholders to build and deliver Data Science solutions that drive business and customer impact, while deepening and scaling internal capabilities and talent. This role will provide insights, influence business strategy, and execute in partnership with stakeholders, product management and IT via agile delivery teams.

Role Summary:

This person will be a leader who manages data science teams to provide analytic insights and methodology design while working with agile development teams to scale solutions for maximum business impact.

Responsibilities Include:


  • Setting strategic analytics direction for optimizing results from our network of provider partners, including value based care programs positioning Cigna for effective customer steerage

  • Execute on analytical methodologies and contribute to programs targeting total cost of care savings for US Commercial Medical business

  • Execute on building models that help automate identification of actionable opportunities by local market, such as unit cost or utilization outliers and suboptimal patterns of care

  • Execute on effective and externally defensible provider performance methodologies to drive steerage

  • Execute on effective prediction and monitoring of results from our provider networks

  • Execute on industry leading value based care models including population health management, risk assessment and leverage from health information interoperability

  • Develop roadmap of analytic inquiry into next best opportunities to improve affordability through the healthcare supply chain.

  • Challenge the way we do business through application of advanced analytics and data science including predictive modeling, machine learning, natural language processing, deep learning, pattern recognition, expert systems and AI

  • Work in close partnership with analytics and data engineering leaders and peers to design, build, and deploy data science solutions that create meaningful and measurable impact

  • Support the operationalization and integration of insights in business processes and collaborate with business facing analytics teams to ensure adoption and value realization

  • Define and execute data science talent strategy, provide individual and team leadership to data scientists to ensure they are growing their capabilities and achieving their career goals

  • Define and evolve data science methods, toolset and processes including the use of advanced and emerging methodologies, end-to-end analytic development lifecycle, and agile ways of working

Qualifications:

This position requires healthcare and insurance content knowledge, analytic expertise, and project delivery experience to support key Affordability initiatives.


  • Bachelor's or advanced degree required in business and/or analytics (including but not limited to finance, accounting, statistics, actuarial science, and data science)

  • A seasoned, respected leader with 10+ years of experience in the health services industry with 5+ years of direct experience in leadership role for data & analytic teams and strategy creation.

  • Deep expertise in advanced analytics and data science methods, tools, platforms and processes required to successfully design, build and operationalize data science solutions

  • Combination of analytical, technical and business acumen

  • Knowledge of big data tools and platforms, structured and unstructured data mining, analysis of real-time/streaming data and usage of external and non-traditional data sources

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in complex matrix organizations and agile teams

  • Experience managing high degree of change and complexity across organization and portfolio

  • Effective leadership, prioritization and management of complex deliverable portfolio in a dynamic environment

  • Ability to prototype statistical analysis and modeling algorithms, and apply these algorithms for data driven solutions to problems in new domains.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and insights to senior business leaders and partners in a relevant and actionable manner

  • Demonstrated results in being able to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into both a short-term and long-term planning

For this position in Colorado, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 148,600.00, +/- 20%, depending on experience.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
