Job Description

The primary purpose of this role is to facilitate and bridge the gap between product development and product manufacturing for our biotechnology products. This person will be the technical liaison between development or engineering and the manufacturing and operations team.

Initially this position will focus around commercializing the assay kits of our test platforms for various new target pathogens. Future work may include similar bridging between our hardware platforms and engineering and commercial manufacturing.

This person should have good technical communications and project management skills to be able to interact with the scientific, engineering, and operations teams, but the position is more than just project management. It is about taking an active role in the project itself, often providing process engineering to develop the hands-on analysis, testing, document creation, and prototyping for the final commercial solutions. The results produced by this position will be what our customers see and feel when they purchase our products.

We expect the responsibilities of this role to expand in parallel with the capabilities of the person - the biotechnology division of Smiths Detection is small but growing, and we are looking for people who are looking to grow right along with us.

Duties & Responsibilities

* Manage the development and manufacturing processes of new products from design phase to production release.
* Test finished product designs and process capabilities to troubleshoot any potential problems prior to release to the manufacturing team.
* Deliver product specifications, procedures, and documentation for assembly to the manufacturing team for production purposes.
* Sample different materials, manufacturing processes, design tolerances, and other factors to find the best ones that suit new or existing product.
* Fabricate prototypes and tooling for new product testing and manufacturing use.
* Train production team in new manufacturing processes or process changes.
* Analyze existing products to identify areas for continuous improvement and update current documentation.
* Explore ways to reduce cost in current and new product assembly.
* Develop quality control criteria and safety / environmental guidelines for new and existing products.
* Engage with the Cross Functional leads to understand product capabilities and potential risks or challenges of requests
* Thoroughly understand and implement the PLP Stage Gate Development framework.
* Work with the team to identify and manage project risks
* Establish mitigation plans, identify trigger events, and initiate corrective action plans

The Individual

Qualifications:

* Minimum of a BS Degree in Engineering or Science related field. Biomedical or Life Science degrees preferred.
* Demonstrated project leadership (including school projects).
*Experience working with cross-functional groups.
* Must be detail-oriented and organized.
* Good written and oral communications skills.
