The Broad is looking for an excellent Business Process Analyst to support continuous improvement initiatives in its finance function, primarily the Institute's soon-to-begin replacement of its existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools. This is a transformational initiative for Broad, sponsored by the CFO, replacing our core financial, supply chain, and reporting systems with cloud-based solutions. In addition to impacting technology, the project will affect numerous key processes and have organizational implications. This project and related initiatives are expected to last for at least two years; this role will evolve to support other high-priority initiatives over time.

The Business Process Analyst will be a member of the Broad project team along with senior leaders from the finance and technology organizations. Their primary responsibility will be evaluating and documenting key business processes, then leading in the design of future-state processes. Where these processes are supported by technology, the Business Process Analyst will work with functional and technical stakeholders to translate business needs into system configuration to best meet Broad's needs. Other responsibilities will include documenting reporting requirements, supporting testing and training efforts, and playing a key role in change management activities. The ERP project will be the Business Process Analyst's primary focus for its duration, but they will also manage and/or support other improvement initiatives related to people, process, technology. An individual with a consulting background or experience as a business analyst with a strong grasp of the functional side of finance might thrive in this role.


Key responsibilities and duties


  • Lead efforts to evaluate and document key financial business process flows and requirements through interviews, document analysis, workshops, surveys, use cases, and business analysis


  • Critically evaluate information gathered and lead the design of future-state processes in light of documented needs and general good practices


  • Where future-state processes will be enabled by technology, collaborate with functional stakeholders, business systems team, and implementation partners to drive ERP configuration decisions which support Broad's needs with the best balance of functionality and supportability


  • Understand and document reporting requirements as needed to support business processes and analytics needs


  • Prepare functional specifications for business process configuration or report development as needed


  • Participate in the ERP solution testing process, including the development of test scenarios that cover the range of Broad's functional requirements


  • Assist in the development and delivery of training and user documentation on new processes, supporting technology, and reporting


  • Play a key role in change management activities


  • Manage individual projects or workstreams/tasks on larger initiatives as needed


  • Prepare and provide project status updates to stakeholders


Minimum qualifications and required skills


  • A love of learning, the curiosity to engage with and understand the goals and context of a project, and a continuous improvement mindset


  • 5+ years of related experience in a finance-focused or consulting role


  • Ability to understand, visualize, analyze, and contribute to design of business processes


  • Familiarity and comfort with financial systems (transactional and reporting) and how they support business processes


  • General understanding of chart of accounts and other financial reporting concepts and how they enable reporting


  • Experience working in a project environment, with project management tools and methodologies, and working to a plan


  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage tasks in light of competing priorities


  • The ability to build excellent working relationships, particularly with project stakeholders, that foster teamwork, good morale and trust


  • The ability to collaborate with others at all levels, including senior leadership


  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate information both verbally and in writing


  • A high level of initiative and the ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment


  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to shifting priorities



Desired qualifications and skills



  • Additional technical knowledge and skills a plus:



    • Experience with cloud-based ERP solutions, specifically Workday, SAP, or Oracle


    • Experience with financial reporting tools


    • Understanding of finance, supply chain, and reporting processes




  • MS/MBA or other advanced degree


  • Knowledge of non-profit research institutions and processes


  • Experience working for/with a consulting organization


  • Experience as a power user of financial reporting tools
