Your Role

Gensler's global Marketing Studio is an award-winning, strategic marketing communications team that leads an integrated approach to intelligent marketing, brand positioning, and business development activities that drive growth for the firm. We are a highly collaborative team made up of designers, editors, and content marketing professionals, and our core communications channels are Gensler.com, Dialogue blog, Dialogue Now newsletter, and social media. We partner with the Gensler Research Institute to develop, execute, and measure key thought leadership campaigns, such as our annual Design Forecast, Climate Action Through Design, and Annual Report.

The Firmwide Marketing Studio is seeking a Design Director who will lead our team of designers while being a creative partner with our Editorial Director and studio leadership who are responsible for our integrated communications strategy. Reporting to the Firmwide Director of Marketing, our Design Director will have a high degree of sophistication in dealing with internal stakeholders and executive leadership.

As a skilled visual storyteller, you will be able to balance multiple projects across our communications channels with proven acumen in inspiring a team to support the firm's mission and purpose and grow business. What You Will Do


  • Inspire world-class design with our team of designers, providing mentorship, direction, and actionable feedback.


  • Amplify Gensler's Climate Change Challenge (GC3) and our Strategies to Fight Racism through across our communications channels.


  • Drive a creative vision for our content marketing across our digital and print channels, elevating storytelling through compelling forms of media (i.e. UX/UI, video, illustration, imagery, presentations, webinars, etc.).


  • Serve as both coach and player, leading creative sessions with thought leaders across the firm, including Co-CEOs and Principals, while driving the deliverables with our team and partners.


  • Champion the integrity of our brand while seeking opportunities to push it forward.


  • Be a strategic partner with our internal stakeholders, understanding the needs of the practice - and our firm clients - to drive new business.


  • Collaborate extensively across our Firmwide and Regional PR, marketing, and communications network; source and oversee any freelancers, as needed.


  • Work alongside Editorial Director to conceptualize, storyboard, and present topics that align with firm goals for branding, thought leadership, and content marketing.


  • Set and uphold the bar for high quality, insightful, and differentiating design work.


Your Qualifications


  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field


  • 10+ years of creative design experience; (at least 5 years art direction and leadership experience) with a body of work that demonstrates design excellence, brand positioning, and content marketing (portfolio link required)


  • Experience across multiple channels (digital, print, UX/UI)-enjoys working on big ideas and small points of execution, and everything in between


  • Deep knowledge of digital trends, with related experience with B2B brands; experience in professional service firms is desired


  • Entrepreneurial mindset with demonstrated ability to strengthen and develop teams


  • Experience collaborating with and counseling senior executives (C-suite, Managing Directors, Subject Matter Experts, etc.)


  • Experience working with decentralized multi-location, global and multicultural communications teams; experience with multi-lingual communications


  • Expert in Adobe Creative Suite


  • Experience working in-house for a professional services firm, or working for an agency is preferred


  • Experience in the design, architecture, real estate, or building industries is highly desired
