The Multiple Sclerosis Division in the Department of Neurology, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami has an opening for an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner to provide direct patient care to multiple sclerosis patients at the University of Miami. The selected candidate will act as an independent provider and work closely with the chief of the Multiple Sclerosis division and other MS specialists to provide care to established MS patients. The position also supports the operation of the infusion center both at UMHC and at PAC (research) and participates in clinical research trials and patient educational programs as needed. Perform histories and physical exams for follow-up patient visits. Order and interpret appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Generate clinical revenue through billing for clinical encounters. Provide patient education. Participate in patient/family intervention Counsel patients and families regarding quality issues affecting patients with multiple sclerosis disorder Respond to medical emergencies as necessary Perform medical procedures with appropriate physician supervision, such as lumbar puncture Conduct multidisciplinary discharge planning, responsible for the plan of care of each patient, make face to face evaluation for equipment and coordinate medical authorizations. Complete disability forms, insurance medical authorizations, and worker compensation forms. Supports the operation of a 6-chair infusion center at UMHC (clinical) and 2-chair at PAC (research only) Participate in clinical trials Participates in outreach events, educational patient programs and other events as needed. Other duties as assigned by the Division Chief. Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories. Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients. Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient's age-specific needs. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability. Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations. Monitors the effectiveness of interventions. Facilitates the patient's transition within and between health care settings, e.g. admitting, transferring, and discharging patients. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. Facilitates staff, patient and family decision making by providing educational tools. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:



Master's degree in relevant field



Certification and Licensing:



Valid State of Florida APRN License



Experience:


Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
