Job Summary

Quality Technician is responsible for all aspects of ensuring quality in Growing Media and Mulch products at the plan-level, including, but not limited to:  operations of the soils mixing line to produce high-quality mixes; formulation oversight and testing; incoming raw material inspection and testing; ensuring that all established specifications and processes are followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Running and operating the soil mixing line to produce high-quality, in-spec mixes


• Oversight and testing of product formulations


• Inspection, testing, and approval of incoming raw materials


• Follow all established specifications and processes


• Investigate and assists in the resolving of Customer quality complaints


• Trains bag line machine operators, supervisors, and plant managers on weights and measures protocols and documentation


• Investigates and identifies causes of material deficiencies


• Manages Calibration Program for laboratory instruments


• Prepares soil trials for germination tests and experiments in the greenhouse and field


• Completes line audits to ensure material quality and volumes are above standards
  
   

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

• Must be detail-oriented


• Must be a self-starter, flexible, ability to multi-task, strong math skills and a team player approach are a must


• Excellent organization skills


• Ability to communicate with individuals within the organization as well as customers


• Good housekeeping skills required


• Ability to influence thinking, deal with and overcome resistance and objections, and to motivate change


• Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Wood, PowerPoint)


• Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Travel

• Limited travel required

Requirements / Education / Experience

• High school degree required; Associates Degree preferred


• Ability to read and interpret instructions and operations manuals and follow step by step instructions. 


• Adequate computer skills

Physical Environment

• Lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds each


• Endure intermittent bending, crouching, pushing, pulling, stooping and reaching


• Standing for extended period of time


• Able to work under extreme conditions such as hot or cold temperatures, noise, dust and dirt
