An opportunity has arisen for a Chemical Technician II to join this global organization within the Organic Analysis workteam at Intertek Allentown. Organic Analysis plays a key role in understanding the structures of organic chemicals, and quantitating concentrations in complex materials.

We are seeking a detail-oriented chemist who takes pride in helping others, wants to improve the effectiveness of our offerings, and is willing to learn .

Duties:

• Works under general supervision
• Sets up, adjusts, operates, and calibrates laboratory equipment and instruments within the GC and/or GC/MS laboratories
• Performs standard and routine analyses, analyzes data, and writes reports
• Writes, revises, reviews SOPs related to job function with guidance
• Has basic knowledge of commonly used chemistry concepts, practices, procedures, and regulations
• esponsible for basic and some advanced sample preparation
• Performs testing following defined methods in support of projects within the GC and/or GC/MS laboratories
• Use computer systems and software programs - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), data acquisition programs - to acquire and document results
• Effectively collaborates with colleagues on laboratory techniques, sample preparation, instrumentation, data analysis, documentation, and safety
• Ensures compliance of company/client SOP, protocols, safety policies, methods, or other procedures with government rules and regulations

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of analytical chemistry, demonstrated through having achieved one of the following:
  
  
  • achelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Physics, Life Sciences, Chemical Technology or Chemical Engineering
  • Associate degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Physics, Life Sciences or Chemical Technology and 2 years of laboratory experience
  • High School Diploma or GED and 6 years of Chemistry Lab experience.
  
  
• 1+ years of experience with GC and/or GC/MS sample preparation and analysis
• Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and the disposal of hazardous agents/reagents, chemicals and materials
• Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical and business information, both oral and written to others, including co-workers, supervisors, and vendors
• Excellent teamwork ability to contribute to multi-technique solutions to complex problems
• Intermediate mathematical skills, including algebraic functions, statistics (mean, median, standard deviation, variance, probability), basic geometry (area, volume calculations), and scientific calculators
• Strong computer skills (Windows, MS Office)
• Ability to work varied and extended hours/days, as business dictates
