JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Mechanical Design Engineer, under general direction, develops and prepares mechanical designs for product and pallet conveyors where the broad use of independent judgement and highly technical skills are required. Collaborating with other team members (designers, applications engineers, controls engineers, and project managers) the conveyor designer will implement ProMach’s conveyor equipment and design standards in line with customers’ standards and expectations. The position reports to the Conveyor Products Manager.


  • Design machined and fabricated parts and prepare bills of materials with assembly drawings utilizing SolidWorks design software.

  • Interface with manufacturing to ensure parts are properly fabricated, machined, and assembled. This will include updating revisions to mechanical design specifications/drawings. 

  • Interface with operations department to conduct conveyor mechanical testing and interface with other departments e.g. sales/marketing, parts, purchasing, etc., to coordinate work/projects and ensure customer on-time delivery. 

  • Act as a technical resource for customers and service department’s service technicians to address and resolve inquires and problems, especially during machine installation and start-up in customer plant(s).

  • Available to travel to customer sites on rare occasions.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology (BSME or BSMET), or similar engineering or technical degree from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent industry experience in mechanical design required. 

  • 0-5 Years of mechanical design experience desired for candidates possessing a formal degree. Over 7 years of mechanical design experience required for candidates possessing no formal degree.

  • Experience working in a multi-disciplined project environment desired: engineering, quality control, procurement, manufacturing, cost estimating, delivery/billing, and configuration management.

  • Effective change management, problem solving, and communication skills (both oral and written).

  • Experience designing conveyor systems preferred

  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes, techniques, practices.

  • Experience using AutoCAD and SolidWorks required.

  • Able to define a problem, gather data to draw conclusions. and develop appropriate plans to address.

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization abilities.

  • Relevant experience working with a Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) system desired.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 5% of time; international customers will require off-normal hour interface.
