The AgTech/CPG Business Development Specialist provides strategic support to SAS AgTech/CPG by developing and managing relationships between SAS and current or prospective customers by identifying new areas of focus for AgTech/CPG and establishing and cultivating relationships with key individuals at target companies.

The Business Development Specialist must articulate the needs of the AgTech/CPG industry and help expand SAS offerings for the industry to position SAS as a vender of choice when considering new ingredient formulation and nutritional needs of food products.

The successful candidate will have advanced skills and high-level experience working with food manufacturers, has an educational background in food and nutrition, can communicate well with internal and external audiences, and can think strategically about how to grow business within existing customer companies while creating opportunities with new customers. Extensive knowledge of food and nutrition policy and how that drives innovation within food companies is required.
Primary Responsibilities:
Builds customer networks, especially with C-levels and senior executives.
- Provides direct industry/business domain sales support for AgTech/CPG.
- Develops and manages strong and effective working relationships with key decision makers, influencers, industry trade groups, and partner organizations.
- Assists AEs with proposal responses and helps set strategic direction for new engagements.
- Makes recommendations to executive levels of management with respect to the negotiation of complex business matters.
- Identifies opportunities for business expansion and develops and manages relationships in strategic markets and accounts that further business development activity.
- Works with marketing, sales and R&D groups to translate business development strategy into specific initiatives.
- Develops strategic direction from market information and creates compelling proposals that effectively differentiate SAS from our competitors.
- Analyzes industry trends and other market information to identify opportunities.
- As an experienced business leader, identifies and communicates areas for improved sales practices and processes.
- Proactively communicates domain knowledge to sales colleagues and other non-technical sales functions that empower the field to identify opportunities and successfully position SAS offerings.
- Participates with senior management to identify and establish objectives, assignments, and goals in accordance with relevant strategic plans; may recommend specific customers and business partners to promote sales and marketing initiatives.
- Serves as a high-level strategist to management in the development of criteria for customer or business partner relationship management programs.
- Prepares and delivers presentations to customers and/or business partners at the highest levels of management.
- Provides overall project management and coordination for customer and/or business partner specific initiatives. May direct internal SAS resources, including pre- sales and post-sales services, contracts, and/or partner relationships.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.

Essential Requirements:
- Bachelors' Degree, preferably in Public Policy, Human Nutrition, Business, Computer Science, agriculture, or related discipline. Masters, Graduate or Doctorate degrees are considerable plus.
- 8 (or more) years of experience working with CPG companies on issues related to human nutrition, ingredient formulation, or nutrition public policy.

- Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, or as part of a team.
- Strong project management and facilitation skills.
- Ability to understand and translate complex technical and business information to internal/external audiences with varying depths of knowledge regarding technology, nutrition, and CPG food manufacturing.
- Public speaking experience.
- Ability to relate current industry issues and trends to SAS offerings.
- Work Location: Cary, North Carolina or Arlington, Virginia.
