Position Title:  Data Engineer                                             


 


Position Summary


As a Data Engineer, there is an opportunity to build data systems that fuel advanced analytics and automate the sharing of data across applications. This role supports both data analytics and application development in the design, development and implementation of automated data pipelines across disparate data sources. Success in this position is measurable improvement in the quality, timeliness, usability and comprehensiveness of our data platforms.  We want to see our organization leveraging data as a strategic asset.   


 


Essential Job Functions



  • Leverage Informatica IICS and Oracle Data Integrator to design, develop, and implement ETL code to enable batch and real-time data migration and integration for strategic project implementations.

  • Design, develop and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture: Develop and automate ETL code using programming languages, ETL tools and job scheduling software to support reporting and analytical needs.

  • Design and build dimensional data models to support the data warehouse initiatives.

  • Design and build the data infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources.

  • Provide data engineering support. Resolve problems and answer questions related to the data, transformations and developed code, as well as layered products used in the architecture; contact vendor support when necessary; facilitate issue escalation and customer problem resolution with optimum speed and efficiency.

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: mitigating risk, automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability and access to information.

  • Data pipeline performance analysis and tuning. Monitor performance of database and ETL code; identify problems and implement solutions; ensure the ETL modules are running at optimum speed and efficiency.

  • Participate in relational data model, dimensional data model, and SQL code reviews on a regular basis both as a reviewer and reviewee

  • Collaborate with the Informatica and Oracle technical support/vendor teams as needed

  • Adhere to departmental security standards and best practices to ensure the data and code are secured.

 


Education/Certifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science or related discipline

  • Informatica or Cloud certifications a plus

 


Experience/Minimum Requirements



  • 5+ years of experience developing, supporting and maintaining real-time and batch data migration and integration ETL code leveraging Informatica or IICS

  • Data engineering experience utilizing Snowflake Data Warehouses is preferred

  • Data engineering experience utilizing the Microsoft Azure cloud computing stack is preferred

 


Other Skills/Abilities



  • Experience with SLDC/Waterfall/Agile methodologies for development artifacts

  • Thorough understanding of dimensional data modeling for designing and building data warehouses

  • Thorough understanding of relational and columnar database architectures and industry best practices for development

  • Excellent SQL coding and performance tuning skills

  • Experience with JSON/XML or PowerShell scripting

  • Strong knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Perl, Java and C/C++

  • Experience using source code control versioning software and DevOps automated deployment software

  • Experience with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) and/or Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) is preferred

  • Experience with Geospatial software such as ArcGIS (Esri) or Oracle Spatial is preferred

  • Ability to communicate complex and technical information in a concise and articulate manner

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to weigh various suggested technical solutions against the original business needs and choose the most cost-effective solution

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

  • Good written and oral communication skills
