The Vice President, Consultant Relations is responsible for developing and implementing strategies toward building/enhancing relationships with third party intermediaries in their assigned territory. This includes consulting & advisory firms that work in the Deferred Compensation, Defined Contribution, Investment, and Retiree Healthcare markets.

This position will require significant travel. Location is flexible but must reside within one of the states in the assigned territory.

Essential functions for this role include:

  • Work with the MVP, Consultant Relations to create and deploy effective consultant strategies, identify key industry trends, and develop strong personal relationships with national, regional, and local consulting firms within assigned territory

  • Coordinate with key internal leaders to provide visibility into the status and value of each consulting firm relationship by developing a firm specific Strategic Relationship Plan, highlighting key performance metrics such as: the number and quality of meetings with key consultants, number and quality of RFI/RFP’s received/won/lost with each consultant within the key firm.

  • Continuously engage with internal centers of excellence such as product, operations, finance, marketing, sales, relationship management, and investments to develop and maintain deep knowledge of ICMA-RC’s products and capabilities and coordinated message and approach to interface with the consultant community.

  • Maintain consultant contact management and history in Sales Force

  • Plan and lead regular meetings with key through leaders and consultants

  • Drive growth of consultant driven RFI/RFP activity, Finals Presentations, and Wins in targeted markets

  • Partner with the RFP team on pricing and review of consultant driven opportunities

  • Participate in sales forecasting and tracking

If you have the following credentials, we encourage you to apply: 

  • 10 or more years of Sales or Sales Management experience in the retirement industry. 5 years of Consultant Relations or DC Retirement Plan Sales experience.

  • FINRA 7& 63 licenses as well as Life, Health & Variable Annuity Licenses at the date of hire or within a determined time

  •  Proven ability to develop effective relationships at all levels, particularly with elected/appointed officials, senior staff and industry consultants.

  • Must understand the sales process and have experience with strategic selling

  • Retirement plan sales experience (457, 403(b), 401(a), OPEB Trust).

  • Significant knowledge of investment products with an emphasis in deferred compensation, defined contribution and defined benefit plans.

  • Effective analytical skills

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently

  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills

  • Prior experience using Sales Force or equivalent CRM system, preferred
