GENERAL OVERVIEW:
Innovation is a 110 person unit of Partners HealthCare responsible for the worldwide commercial application of the unique capabilities and discoveries of its 60,000 employees and faculty. It is Partners business development arm with an annual budget exceeding $25 million and direct responsibility for industry collaborations, international consulting, investing, company creation, licensing, and innovation management. It creates and acts on commercial opportunities for its Harvard Medical School appointed faculty and its core hospitals Brigham and Womens Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital, core affiliates of Harvard Medical School.

The Licensing Manager represents Partners to leading companies, investors and innovators. The candidate will shape and execute deals which leverage technology developed by Partners affiliated researchers and clinicians. The role requires working closely with leading Partners clinicians, investigators and other innovators. This role provides the qualified candidate with direct exposure to marketing, negotiation, and interaction with companies and other entities seeking to license and/or support research at Partners HealthCare. The candidate is expected to establish, grow and manage high impact industrial collaborations and execute related license and sponsored research transactions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly engages industry executives, investors and Partners innovators to jointly shape commercial offerings based on Partners discoveries, innovations, research outcomes and other high value capabilities.
Assesses the commercial potential, translational readiness and value of inventions and develops commercialization approach including identifying and engaging potential licensees and collaborators.
Develops strategy to optimize commercial impact, economic returns and cost savings of key and emerging Partners discoveries, innovations and other technological capabilities.
Works as part of a multidisciplinary team assembled to give special emphasis to areas of institutional excellence and high market potential.
Crafts and iterates licensing and sponsored research agreements with guidance from Associate Director / Director of Licensing and legal expertise within Partners.
Manages portfolio of medical innovations and rapidly delivers high value commercial outcomes.
Identifies, assesses, organizes, characterizes and markets patient benefiting and cost saving technologies.
Contributes to team performance goals by achieving personal objectives including number of licenses, revenues, and related agreements.
Undergraduate degree in science, engineering, life sciences or healthcare economics. An advanced degree in business, law or sciences strongly preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of directly relevant business development, licensing, IP management, technology commercialization or deal making experience.

Must be able to represent Partners HealthCare and gain the confidence, trust and respect of clinicians, scientists, investors, corporate executives, entrepreneurs and administrators, able to diagnose and resolve complex inter-organizational, interpersonal, technological issues and contractual issues.
Individual should be highly organized with ability to prioritize effective and concurrently manage multiple opportunities and relationships with competing deadlines.
Exceptional oral, written, communication and analytical skills.
