SUMMARY

The Purchasing Agent purchases, stores and issues spare parts for mobile or industrial equipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Proficient and accurate computer entry and organizational skills.

Read shop manuals to ascertain type and specification of part(s).

Contact vendors and issue purchase orders for parts and services.

Compare invoices against requisitions to verify quality and quantity of merchandise received.

Store purchased parts in storeroom bins and issue parts to employees upon request.

Initiate and record repair time expended by mechanics and close work orders.

Requisition parts from central parts department.

Conduct cycle counts on inventory on a regular basis.

Perform basic warehouse housekeeping tasks.

Maintain proper inventory control processes.

Enter fuel tickets.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to operate fork trucks.

Must have computer skills either from formal education or prior experience.

Ability to communicate with vendors, service providers and all levels of employees.

Must be self-motivated, flexible and eager to learn.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE  SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee must wear personal protective equipment of steel toed shoes/boots, safety glasses, hard hat and gloves if applicable.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and toxic or caustic chemicals.   The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
