The Health & Safety Coordinator will provide technical safety and health support to the production team and will work with the Health & Safety Manager to develop, maintain, and protect health and safety standards in accordance with current health and safety legislation.

Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Promote a Safety Culture of Excellence through leading by example, coaching, & mentoring.

  2. Assist in the management of Dana Health & Safety Programs (LOTO, PIT, JSA, Ergonomics, etc.)

  3. Act as an Internal Auditor to support Health & Safety Management Systems.

  4. Assist in the development, collection, and analysis of safety metrics including Auditing Program, Incident Investigations, and other programs as directed.

  5. Identify safety training needs and collaborate with the Training Team to design, implement, and evaluate training programs.

  6. Collaborate with engineers, and other resources as needed, to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.

  7. Collaborate with managers to monitor compliance and identify safety issues

  8. Intervene in unsafe activities or operations

Required Education/Experience/Competencies:

  1. Minimum 2 year degree in Safety with 3 years of relevant work experience in the safety profession or, at least 7 years of experience in technical safety activities.  Preferred: 4 year degree in Occupational Health and Safety

  2. Demonstrated execution of Safety and Health measures, programs and procedures.  Including, but not limited to, hazard assessment and correction, inspection, incident investigation and document control.

  3. Thorough knowledge of applicable government regulations

  4. Demonstrated effective communication skills

  5. Capable of managing multiple projects

  6. Strong training and interpersonal skills

  7. Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail and analytical skills.

  8. Must be proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

  9. Willingness to work varying hours to ensure Safety team availability across 3 production shifts

  10. Possess or be willing to obtain OSHT or ASP Certification.

  11. Experience working within a collective bargaining union contract environment is desirable.
