The Media Supervisor must have exceptional communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills and be able to multi-task efficiently and effectively. S/he must be able to work effectively with and counsel clients and partner with her colleagues (paid, social, etc.) on developing and executing multichannel media strategies. In addition, s/he must have excellent written and verbal skills, as well as a solid working knowledge of social/digital platforms and management of visual assets. S/he must be familiar with all types of news media outlets, understand the role of social media, and be familiar with the aspects of production and video workings. S/he must be able to effectively differentiate controlled versus earned media tactics. S/he must effectively delegate and oversee a large volume of short-term and longer-term/complex tactical assignments on his/her accounts and accurately judge and edit the work of the more junior team. 


Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Demonstrate tactical proficiency in media relations, including creating and driving strategic traditional, social and paid media outreach plans; manage multiple projects for multiple clients from concept to completion 

  • Consistently produce high quality internal and external communications content 

  • Oversee operational performance of accounts, ensuring quality work, deadline and budget adherence  

  • Make measurable contributions to the agency’s new business programs including developing new business opportunities and participating in new business presentations; assist account teams on creating/writing and presenting media portion of proposals 

  • Showcase a network of influencers, and an ability to maintain and develop key media contacts; experience pitching stories to national and local print, online, television and radio media 

  • Serve as client’s daily media contact and act as client lead when appropriate; address client issues thoughtfully and effectively 

  • Effectively navigate and manage potential internal/external client issues; showcase an ability to course correct and provide strategic and effective solutions 

  • Build relationships with third-party influencers, vendors and internal business partners to meet client needs 

  • Supervise staff by motivating, coaching, consistently providing feedback, holding them accountable and conducting their reviews

Basic Qualifications 

  • At least four years of experience of doing predominantly earned media work 

Preferred Qualifications 


  • Must have demonstrated ability to have a comprehensive understanding of accounts – their business, products, markets, personnel, outside influencers among other aspects, and succinctly convey this knowledge to the media and internal account team members  

  • S/he must have a solid grasp of all traditional and new public relations and media tools, and be able to recommend a variety of strategies and tactics to his/her internal clients 

  • S/he must be able to demonstrate excellent storytelling skills, and provide sound, level-appropriate media counsel with all levels of internal client contacts 

  • Demonstrates a consistent ability to develop, manage and implement strategic media relations and account-specific initiatives across a variety of communications channels  

  • Demonstrated ability to lead day to day media/account work and supervise projects junior team members, manage up, and proactively lead daily program pieces independently with little oversight AP style master 

  • Demonstrated capability to work alongside the client in a collaborative, newsroom environment 

  • Have a strong journalistic mindset, with proven ability to uncover storylines media will find compelling 

  • Ability to research, interview, write and edit a range of media communications (bios, conference reports, media alerts, pitch emails, post-project recap reports) 

  •  Draft complex client correspondence and strategies/program recommendations  

  • Proven ability to manage large projects (including budgets) and small teams simultaneously, function as a daily client contact, as well as develop and execute plans to meet client goals  

  • Ability to write strategic media plans and a variety of media materials with limited oversight 

  • Experience managing product launches, celebrity campaigns, milestone announcements, media events, participate in desk-side briefings, etc.
