Position Title: Claims Specialist (General Liability)
Location:California - Hybrid Remote (must work from any Sedgwick office within CA, preference Concord or Roseville)

Duration: 5+ Months Contract to Hire
Job Type: Full Time/ W2
Pay Range: $45/hr on W2
Education Level: High School
Shift: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, PST
Primary Purpose: The Claims Specialist will investigate general liability and some commercial auto liability claims, assessing exposures and determining liability. This role focuses on managing claims through effective action plans to achieve timely resolutions, adhering to client service expectations and industry best practices. Additionally, the Specialist will handle subrogation of claims and negotiate settlements, requiring strong communication and customer service skills.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Analyze and process moderate to complex general liability claims, gathering necessary information to assess exposure and develop action plans.
Assess liability and resolve claims in accordance with evaluation and client service instructions.
Negotiate settlements within designated authority levels.
Calculate and assign timely reserves to claims, ensuring reserve adequacy throughout the claims lifecycle.
Approve and process claim payments and adjustments, settling claims within authority limits.
Prepare settlement authority requests for client submission as required.
Ensure claims are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Coordinate vendor referrals for effective claims management.
Utilize cost containment strategies, including strategic vendor partnerships, to minimize claims costs.
Manage claim recoveries, including subrogation, Howell, and Medicare offsets.
Report claims to excess carriers and respond to their requests promptly and professionally.
Maintain professional relationships with clients and claimants through clear communication via phone and email.
Ensure accurate documentation and coding of claim files.
Refer complex cases to supervisor and management as needed.
Additional Functions and Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as assigned.
Support organizational quality programs.
Occasional travel may be required.
Qualifications:
Education & Licensing: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Professional certification relevant to the insurance industry preferred but not required.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in claims management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Knowledge:
Expertise in insurance principles and laws pertaining to general liability claims.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
Analytical and interpretive skills.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Effective negotiation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Commitment to meeting or exceeding service expectations.
