The purpose of this position is to be a resource to patients on the Alexion Rare Disease patient journey and their liaison for information. The Patient Education Manager (PEM) is a key field-based role responsible for engaging the patient community, conducting dedicated patient education programs, partnering with local advocacy groups, local chapters of national advocacy groups, and supporting offices looking to understand OneSource offerings in more detail.
The PEM will provide patients disease state and product education, an overview on Alexion's OneSource programs, support during the initial onboarding period, and logistical support between the patient/caregiver and available OneSource resources. The PEM will interact with patients/caregivers, nurses, pharmacists, ancillary staff, physicians, and advocacy/support groups to prevent and address non-clinical barriers to patient education and onboarding. They will also serve as the primary source for all regional patient community engagement activities.
You will be responsible for:
Local Patient Engagement (70%)
Create and manage regional patient engagement plans including patient educational events, community engagements, and face-to-face patient interactions
Territory includes: Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.
Educate patients and caregivers on Alexion products and the available support
Share materials on the disease, diagnosis, and treatment support with patients when required
Educate prescribed patients and their caregivers regarding how to prepare for and what to expect during the infusion process for Alexion products, in accordance with product label utilizing Alexion approved resources
When requested by internal partners, work with patients to support the resolution of patient logistical issues impacting treatment initiation
Capture local business insights to enhance strategic plans and needed patient support
Engage with specific patient and caregiver rare disease communities at a regional level
Set up and participate in events and educational initiatives for patients and caregivers on behalf of Alexion per approved policy
Build the rare disease network/relationships through local advocacy groups, rare disease related events, and attending conferences
Partner with Alexion Patient Advocacy Team to drive engagement and partnership
Infusion Site of Care Education & Logistics (30%)
In partnership with field colleagues, support the training of infusion centers around expectations setting for initiation process, drug storage/transportation, procedure, consistent experience delivery, and post-administration monitoring for Alexion products to ensure a seamless patient experience
Responsible for supporting Patient Navigator with in-person resolution of non-reimbursement barriers (educational, logistical) as needed
Develop and facilitate relationships with infusion nurses and other staff to support patients
Partner and collaborate compliantly with other Alexion field teams on patient and HCP office education
You will need to have:
Minimum of 4 years total business experience in the healthcare or biotech industry
BA/BS Degree is required; an advocacy, social work, nursing, counseling, or rare disease support background is desired (advanced degree a plus)
Previous experience with IV infused products
Ability to travel up to 60-80% within a territory is required; ability to travel to meetings/trainings/programs as necessary
Excellent presentation skills to diverse stakeholders in varied settings that may include up to 150+ people
High initiative, solid work ethic, and consistent accountability
Valid driver's license and clean driving record

We would prefer for you to have:
At least 3 years field-based experience in account management, sales, or patient education preferred
Must be familiar with the relevant legal and regulatory components of the pharmaceutical and biotech industry, rare disease experience a plus
Bi-lingual proficiency in Spanish language, both written and spoken
Familiarity with managed care and particularly physician administered biologic therapies
Understanding of community engagement groups and non-profit organizations
Empathy and strong communication and listening skills
Experience dedicated to assisting patients/caregivers
Demonstrated success working within cross-functional teams, including the ability to collaborate across functions in a field-based role
Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to change and react constructively in a high-energy and fast paced environment
