Automation and Controls Engineer at Schneider Electric USA, Inc

Job Description:

What do in this position?


  • Identification & elimination of production barriers for various levels of automation including: presses, welders, conveyors, automated assembly, and robotics

  • Put in place controls systems like process interlocks, new HMI's for equipment, QR code scanners, scale systems, with SQL and Schneider Electric MES data connections.

  • Update, and continuously improve existing controls systems including: ladder logic programs, relay logic, electrical distribution, motor controls, operator interfaces, and pneumatic systems.

  • Design and develop new machine controls including robotic, electrical, electronic, pneumatic and vision systems

  • Coordinate with production and maintenance on existing machine control modifications or installations

  • Create, maintain, and keep current all documentation: electrical and pneumatic schematics; panel layouts; PLC programs, operator display, operator interface, and robot programs

  • Implement and maintain data collection system for shop floor production equipment

  • Cybersecurity monitoring and cyber threat hardening.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related 4 year degree

  • Strong PLC programming experience with Schneider Electric PLCs and HMIs (Modicon, Magelis)

  • Strong Machine vision skills with Cognex and Keyence

  • Denso Robotic programming experience

  • Experience with pneumatic motion controls and VFDs

  • Microsoft Visual Studio and MIS experience

  • Stratus Server management via Remote Desktop

  • Enterprise networking experience

  • SQL programming and query skills

  • Proficiency in Safety Engineering with exposure to Electrical Safety

  • Process interlocking and Bar/QR Code scanning experience


Required Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and develop action plans to strategically eliminate barriers

  • Ability to identify waste and drive it out of complex processes

  • Ability to prepare, read and interpret written reports, instructions, procedures, and guidelines

  • Ability to read, update, and interpret blueprints and schematics

  • Ability to manage projects, schedule multiple priorities, and meet deadlines

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams

  • Self-motivated and driven individual desiring to make an immediate impact

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Familiarity with powder metallurgy, robotic loading and unloading systems is a strong plus
