Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a motivated environmental engineer with strong communication skills and experience to support our Resilience Business Line needs with a focus on investigation and treatment of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The candidate will be responsible for working with our project teams to plan and implement environmental investigation and remediation tasks as well review and complete on-site background data analysis and PFAS forensics analysis.

The environmental engineer will also assist project teams with the preparation of proposals, workplans, and reports. Additionally, the right candidate will support our product stewardship team with the PFAS phase out in manufacturing.

The Environmental Engineer works with our Arcadis project teams to:


  • Assist Project Managers (PMs) and Assistant PMs (APMs) with planning environmental investigation and remediation tasks
  • Report and analyze environmental data with particular emphasis on PFAS
  • Exhibit ownership of delegated tasks, including responsibility for coordination and delivery of on-schedule and on-budget tasks
  • Maintain effective verbal and written communication
  • Complete environmental remediation design tasks, including soil and groundwater remedial system and in-situ technology treatment design and assessments
  • Assist with writing and preparation of technical reports, work plans, letters, and memorandum
  • Coordinate tasks, data compilation and interpretation, cost estimates, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory file review, proposal writing, project strategy development, schedule and budget
  • Manage and establish of subcontracts
  • Communicate results and strategies with clients and client teams
  • Assist in the development of standards, templates, etc
  • Develop customized reports and other outputs from digital tools
  • Model the removal of PAHs, PCBs, PFAS, and heavy metals at impacted sites in stormwater, wastewater, and/or groundwater
  • This position may require field work up to 15% of the time

Role accountabilities:

  • Proficiency in environmental analytical methods with particular emphasis on methods described in EPA 537.1 (modified), EPA 1633, and QSM 5.3 or higher Table B15.
  • Preparation and Implementation of QAPPs and DQOs
  • Coordinating laboratory services to ensure project specific requirements are met
  • Understanding of various government, commercial, and state analytical reporting formats
  • Historical data review and analysis
  • Experience with business intelligence tools like MS Power BI
  • Performing advanced formulas and functions in Microsoft applications
  • Experience in developing custom reports, requested queries/view associated with configuring dashboards.
  • Responsiveness to client (user) requests
  • Ability to handle sporadic heavy workloads and the pressure associated with meeting stringent due dates
  • Assist in preparing and recommending scientifically valid and appropriate quality assurance program for data collection activities

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:


  • MS/PhD degree in chemistry or environmental science/engineering
  • 3 Years Experience with PFAS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of various government, commercial, and state reporting formats
  • Experience with developing QAPPs and DQOs
  • 1-3 years' experience in the environmental consulting environment

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $105,000.00. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
