We are currently seeking a credentialed EHS Leader to join our Irwin Engineers business as our Office Director in Natick, MA. The Office Director [OD] is responsible for the growth and profitability of the office / divisions under their direct supervision; this includes direct and indirect supervision to ensure effective operations. This person will also assist the Regional Vice President [RVP] in achieving the Annual Business Plan targets (including growth projections) for the office.


 


We focus on Environmental, Health, & Safety projects for our clients in MA, so we expect also this person to provide credible thought leadership in these fields (e.g.:  Environmental Remediation, Occupational Health & Safety / Industrial Hygiene, etc.).


 




Primary Duties / Responsibilities:






  • Responsible for the profitable operation of the office and divisions under their direct supervision within the office; operations include office administration, business development & revenue generation, client contact, office/division management, financial oversight, overhead management, etc.


  • Responsible for achieving short and long-term goals for operations, financial performance, and profitable growth.


  • Responsible for marketing the firm’s services; this includes developing & evaluating contracts as well as serving as the firm’s responsible Point-of-Contact with specific clients.


  • Act as our Practice Builder to provide leadership in planning as well as directing / implementing an aggressive, coordinated marketing/business plan to leverage existing relationships and develop new relationships to get additional work; this includes managing/expanding existing client relationships while pursuing new client relationships.


  • Serve as Principal-in-Charge / Project Manager for major clients; this includes providing leadership to staff assigned to projects.


  • Lead and manage Accounts Receivable [A/R] Collections efforts.


  • Coordinates with the Chief Engineers, Division Managers, and other Office Directors on workforce planning / implementation & adherence with QA/QC/Safety procedures within the office.


  • Coordinate with upper-management and corporate leadership to enhance business development activities between regions.


  • Attract experienced staff members who can also bring client relationships, strong technical credentials, and a solid reputation; this is part of building / developing a strong and effective team based upon Pennoni’s Code of Courtesy and Personal Conduct, so this person will be expected to assist in leadership development of direct reports.


  • Direct, plan, and manage the execution of office activities (including budgets, sales, cash management and overhead management).


  • Additional duties may be assigned, as needed.


 




Reporting Relationships:






  • The OD reports directly to the geographical RVP.


  • Direct reports include Division Managers (DM) for the divisions under their direct supervision and administrative staff in the office.


  • The OD will coordinate with the RVP as well as Corporate Leadership on matters pertaining to the office (including technology management).


 




Basic Requirements:

 






  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant field of study (e.g.:  Engineering, Science, Engineering, Safety Management, etc.).


  • At least 12 years of professional experience working in EHS (preferably with OHS and/or IH functions).


  • Active relevant credential (i.e.:  Certified Industrial Hygienist [CIH], Certified Safety Professional [CSP], and/or Professional Engineer [PE]).


 




Preferred Qualifications:

 






  • Proven leadership skills; Management and/or Project Management experience with multi-disciplinary services is strongly preferred.


  • Master’s degree is a plus!


  • Additional relevant credentials (e.g.: CHMM, Lead Inspection / Risk Assessor, Mass DLS LAA Licenses, etc.) is a plus.


  • Experience with building and/or maintaining client relationships; Business Development and Marketing experience is a plus.


  • Proven ability to display strategic and tactical decision-making skills simultaneously; this person needs to be able to look at the “big picture” in relation to project goals in order to coordinate projects effectively.


  • Proficiency with basic computer systems and software; this person will be expected to use MS-Office (e.g.: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).


  • Proven ability to demonstrate problem-solving skills, especially when working on a variety of projects while providing solutions to difficult issues.


  • Proven ability to work independently or in a team environment while demonstrating strong character and dependability.


  • Excellent organizational skills, especially with a proven ability to work in an energetic and challenging work environment on a variety of projects; this person will be expected to demonstrate a self-motivated demeanor while effectively multi-tasking and prioritizing multiple assignments.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written); technical writing skills are strongly preferred!
