Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. ("SEL") seeks professional, innovative and detailed individuals for our Senior Engineer - Automation position located at our Boise, Idaho field office.

Senior Engineer - Automation (Multiple Openings)




Responsibilities:



The Senior Engineer - Automation is required to possess, understand, and apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of power system automation and related SEL products (involving software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, relevant industry protocols-such as IEC-61850, DNP, and Modbus-Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices). The incumbent will be expected to apply the principles of electrical and electronics engineering and: (1) serve as a technical expert in the design and application of SEL equipment and solutions in electric power system automation; (2) lead in training and assisting customers with the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, and operation of automation systems; (3) research, innovate, and develop new engineering solutions and processes; (4) engage in phases of full life-cycle project management for engineering projects such as proposal conception, review, approval, and completion of scopes, budgets, and schedules for assigned work, commissioning and close-out; (5) participate in the preparation of functional design specifications; (6) prepare and maintain detailed design documents, reports, checklists, test reports, and deliverables; (7) mentor, direct, control, and exercise discretion over the activities of two Automation Engineers under his or her direction, including holding the authority to recommend hiring, firing, and other personnel actions; (8) responsible for environmental, health and safety leadership, the maintenance of a safe workplace, safety awareness and training, accident investigations and reporting, and implementation of safe and environmentally sound work practices; (9) provide support for other company marketing, sales, application engineering, and development activities; and (10) continuously identify, measure, and improve company engineering processes.



TRAVEL:



These full-time positions will be based out of SEL's Boise, Idaho field office. However, because the company has numerous customers nationwide, some travel is required, as the incumbent will occasionally and on a short-term basis be deployed to various customer sites. Candidates must therefore be willing to travel to various unanticipated locations throughout the United States on an ongoing basis.
