The Role / Responsibilities:

Responsible for developing methodology and peril engine software development to support delivering complex science-based models for different perils (i.e., earthquake, hurricane, flood, SCS, climate change models, etc.) and emerging risks, including Cyber, Terrorism and LifeRisks models. The role requires an in-depth understanding of numerical and mathematical modeling and software development to support simulation (HD models) framework and closed-form solutions (DLM) to deliver the models to Moody's RMS clients through SaaS or/and on-prem solutions.

The role includes focusing on developing and enhancing the methodology of the high-definition (HD) model frameworks for all peril models for the SaaS solution, improving the performance to minimize the runtime, which results in cloud cost savings. That includes exposure disaggregation, aggregate hazard development, temporal simulation of events, sampling, as well as collaborating with other teams to bring new features to the software that enables new modeling capabilities.

The peril engines team role includes implementing the latest model science and data through close collaboration with the Model Dev leads, Software, and Product teams for end-to-end development and integration to Risk Intelligent SaaS Platform or/and on-prem solutions. The models range from cat models (like earthquake, flood, and wind) to non-cat models (like cyber, terrorism, agriculture) and climate change models. There are also ancillary products delivered as data layers, which are analyzed and processed in this team and packaged through different SaaS product offerings of Moody's RMS for clients looking to get insight into individual locations through LI (location intelligence) services.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enhance the HD framework used in cat and non-cat models that are delivered through SaaS offering with superior performance

  • Collaborate with product team to design new products tailored toward clients' needs.

  • Collaborate with model development teams to integrate the science, methodology and data of their models into HD framework

  • Collaborate with the software organization to seamlessly integrate model engines into platform

  • Drive the creation of data layers tailored for various products that delivers insight to clients through location intelligence services

  • Provide leadership in addressing customer inquiries related to HD methodology and offer live site support to ensure continuous and reliable model operation.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of scientific programming experience, mathematical and analytical modeling, and risk modeling experience.

  • Strategic thinker with a track record of driving innovation and transforming ideas into successful products.

  • Experience with programming languages such as C#, C++ and JAVA

  • Experience with statistical analysis and programming tools such as "R", Python or equivalent. Strong mathematical foundation with particular focus in numerical modeling of complex problems

  • Experience with big data technologies and analytic methods applied in the discipline of "data science".

  • Demonstrated ability and proven experience managing and motivating talented research professionals and collaborating with other interested constituents.

  • Strong orientation towards working in teams in a collaborative spirit.

  • Outstanding communication skills - ability to explain complex ideas to a range of audiences.

  • Masters or Ph.D. in engineering with strong mathematics, statistic, and programming skills

For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is [[$160k - [[$212k, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation.
