The University of Miami School of Law, Office of Career & Professional Development, has a great opportunity for an Associate Director, Career Services (JD Career Advisor) to work at the Coral Gables Campus.


The Associate Director, Law Career Services provides individualized career and professional development guidance to students and alumni. The Associate Director, Law Career Services also oversees the planning, development, and administration of career and professional development programs and events for students.



Job Description
:




Career Advisor for J.D. Students and Recent Graduates





  • Provide ongoing, individual counseling to students and recent graduates regarding career planning and job searches, including self-assessment, resume and cover letter review, interview preparation, professional skills development, and career research and options.






  • Closely track students' summer, academic year, and post-graduate employment, including practice areas and geographic markets of interest.






  • Conduct mock interviews. Evaluate students' performance and provide constructive feedback.






  • Assists in the creation of job search guides, marketing materials, and other print and electronic resources.






  • Connect students with alumni and other practitioners for mentoring and networking purposes.






  • Monitor the national legal hiring market and legal career trends to effectively counsel students and recent graduates.






  • Present workshops on topics related to job search strategies and current market trends.






  • Assists students with developing their LinkedIn account.






  • Collect and assist in the accurate reporting of graduate employment data as required by the American Bar Association and National Association for Law Placement.





Professional Development Programming and Events





  • Assist the Assistant Dean in developing and executing the OCPD's comprehensive, strategic plan to engage law students and position them for success in the legal hiring market.






  • Oversee plan for orienting first year law students to the services and resources offered by the OCPD.






  • Assist in planning events to facilitate networking opportunities with employers and build networking and interview skills for students, including monthly employer meet and greets.






  • Plan and manage execution of mock interview programs, career fairs, and bar association fair.






  • Oversee deployment of mid-semester check-ins and post-graduation employment questionnaires.






  • Collaborate with various law school programs and offices, faculty, student leaders, student organizations, bar associations and others to create and support career and professional development programming for law students.






  • Attend alumni, bar association, and other organizations' functions to create networks with attorneys and other professionals affiliated with the legal and affiliated industries.



  • Maintain active membership in the South Florida Association for Law Placement and National Association for Law Placement.





Office Administration





  • Perform other duties as assigned, including indirect supervision of student workers and special projects assigned by the Assistant Dean.






  • Contributes to the long-range planning and goals of the department.





Education/Experience
:





  • Juris Doctor degree and a minimum of three years post-graduate work experience as a licensed attorney are required; law firm practice experience is strongly preferred.






  • Must possess considerable understanding of U.S. legal system.






  • Knowledge and understanding of career practices and opportunities within local, national, and global legal communities.






  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills; ability to conduct and facilitate presentations in person and virtually.






  • Candidate must demonstrate integrity, dependability, sound judgment, equanimity, teambuilding, and resourcefulness to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with multiple diverse constituency groups.
