POSITION - Union: Corrosion Technician (Local 470-BU1) (SCG-CT-Marsh Hill)(R-06043)

HOURLY RATE RANGE- ($42.22 - $47.43)



Job Purpose



  • Troubleshooting skills- Advanced proficiency

  • Ability to read Infrastructure mapping and/or electric schematics- Advanced proficiency

  • Mathematics aptitude - Intermediate proficiency

  • MS Office - Intermediate Proficiency, with concentration in Excel

  • Knowledge and concepts of Electrical Theory - Intermediate Proficiency

  • Customer service skills- Intermediate proficiency

  • Attention to detail

  • Problem solving skills

  • CP design skills - Intermediate proficiency

  • Ability to interpret engineer designs.

  • Understands the concepts of rectifiers and ground bed replacement


Job Responsibilities



  • Responsible to not only work safely, but to promote a safe work ethic and behavior.

  • Responsible to perform and interpret required readings (i.e. annual test points, isolated services, casings, bonds, foreign crossings) in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures.

  • Responsible for timely cathodic protection troubleshooting (i.e. low systems, shorted conditions)

  • Responsible for timely creation of remediation work orders (i.e. install anodes, clear short, install insulator, repair / replace test station). Follows through with necessary departments to ensure timely completion.

  • Works closely with peers from other utilities to maintain CP at franchise gate stations.

  • Responsible for performance of QA checks on reads performed by others

  • Responsible for troubleshooting and maintenance of rectifiers

  • Responsible for maintenance of tools and equipment.

  • Responsible for atmospheric inspections for bridge crossings, above ground piping that is dept. responsibility, or other exposed piping as needed in accordance with procedures.

  • Understands use of unique equipment and tools used purposely for Cathodic Protection measures.

  • Provides corrosion control-related support to other Departments as needed for maintenance / repair

  • Participates as needed in regulatory audits to ensure success




Transmission and / or High-Pressure Distribution gas mains:



  • Performs annual CIS of scheduled piping.

  • Works with Engineering on annual testing of scheduled HCA piping.

  • Works with R.O.W. crews with follow up investigations or maintenance.

  • Works closely with peers from other utilities to maintain CP at franchise gate stations.

  • Responds to arcing or stray voltage conditions on gas lines.

  • Assist with troubleshooting responsibilities as required by Corrosion control Supervisor

  • May be assigned to act as a temporary supervisor as stated in the provisions in the current BU1 collective bargaining agreement.




Working Conditions/Physical Requirements



Travel:


  • Frequent local travel with occasional out of town requirements.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Physical Demands:


  • This position frequently requires prolonged standing or walking.

  • This position frequently requires the ability to reach above shoulder level.

  • This position frequently requires the ability to bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • This position requires the ability to work in awkward positions.

  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Use of hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, tunnel/pry bars

Work Environment:


  • The ability to work in both office and field environments.

  • May work near or with moving mechanical parts.

  • Will be exposed to varying outdoor weather conditions,

  • May be exposed to excessive noise.

  • Frequent interaction with other employees.

  • Frequent interaction with customers,

Experience and Education:


Experience


  • Past experience with use of hand tools

  • Gas Pipeline experience

  • Troubleshooting experience

  • 2 years field work of pipeline cathodic protection / corrasion control

  • Successful completion of all current Operational Qualifications.


Education



  • High school diploma

  • Valid driver's license

  • NACE CP1 (Cathodic Protection Tester) or greater.
