Job Description:

The College of Arts and Sciences at Dakota State University is accepting applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Composition and Rhetoric beginning August 2024. The applicant selected will be assigned to teach composition courses. Courses may be taught on-campus in Madison, SD, and online as needed.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Teach equivalent to 12 credit hours per semester (4:4 load for Fall: Spring semesters).

  • Teach undergraduate courses that are part of the core curriculum of the general education program at Dakota State University, including Basic Writing, Composition I, Composition II, and Creative Writing as well as various upper-level courses.

  • Champion the composition curriculum on campus, including general education and dual credit, collaborating with colleagues to advance and expand course offerings.

  • Provide service to the program, university, and community, advising students, serving on university committees, assisting with recruitment activities, and engaging in ongoing program/course assessment.

  • Develop and maintain professional scholarship with possible opportunities to mentor students.


Required Qualifications:


  • Ph.D. in English, Composition and Rhetoric, or a related field.

  • Ability to teach undergraduate students.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience integrating technology into teaching.

  • Knowledge of digital and AI-assisted writing.
