Job Description
Primary Function of the Position

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to design, test, and evaluate audio hardware for existing and future production versions of Intuitive products. The person in this position will work closely with Electrical, Firmware, Software, and Mechanical Engineers.

Essential Job Duties


  • Act as head hardware engineer for audio electronics design, integration, and testing at Intuitive.

  • Collaborate with and facilitate professional relationships with third party audio vendors.

  • Develop and execute test protocols and verify designs meet requirements and specifications.

  • Collaborate in a cross-functional team to develop requirements and specifications for new designs.

  • Implement detailed designs in schematic form and see design through layout.

  • Collaborate with Firmware and Software engineering to bring-up designs and test functionality.

  • Solicit feedback and implement iterative improvements on designs based on DFM/DFA/DFT, serviceability, reliability, longevity, and performance.

  • Collaborate with NPI and other engineering functions to transition designs into production.

  • Contribute towards system level design conclusions.

  • Act as a technical head within the group and mentor more junior members.

Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 8 years of audio hardware and/or electrical systems design experience (or 6 years with Master's and 3 years with PhD), taking designs from concept all the way to production.

  • Fluent in analog and digital audio fundamentals including microphone and speaker selection, CODEC design, amplifier and filter design.

  • Experience using audio test equipment and developing audio testing procedures.

  • Ability to interpret audio testing data to improve acoustic performance of an audio system.

  • Mixed signal board level PCA/PCB design.

  • Design for electromagnetic compliance (EMC).

  • Transmission line theory and signal integrity; familiar with HyperLynx or equivalent.

  • Fluent in OrCAD Schematic capture (or equivalent).

  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. JavaScript, Python, etc.).

  • Ability to run departmental and cross-functional projects and teams.

  • Demonstrated record of effectively taking the lead in communicating with and influencing senior stakeholders on technical decisions and project goals/timelines.


Required Education and Training
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering

Working Conditions

  • Applicant must be able to qualitatively assess acoustic performance listening for volume, noise, distortion, and overall acoustic quality.

  • The job does on occasion involve carrying subassemblies and working directly on the robot systems, which can involve laying on the floor or working in difficult-to-access areas. However, performing these tasks is not a requirement for this role and assistance can be made available to those with limited mobility.


Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with ABC-MRT or other intelligibility testing standards.

  • Familiarity with mechanical audio concepts (vibration, reverberation, Helmholtz resonators)

  • Experience with Allegro PCB Designer (or equivalent).

  • (Bonus) experience using Agile, SAP, and JIRA/Confluence or previous medical device experience.
