This is a full time, 1.0 FTE position. Shifts will be scheduled Monday through Friday with a flexible start time. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

Help coach and lead future inpatient coders at UW Health.

We are seeking a Program Manager, Inpatient Coder Apprentice Program to:


  • Coordinate and supervise hiring, training, and development of new inpatient coders in our new Inpatient Coding Apprentice Program.
  • Develop internal training curriculum, materials and evaluations for coding apprentices.
  • Work with coding apprentices in group sessions and in one-to-one in virtual sessions over the course of the apprentice cohort (1-2 years).

Education :

Minimum - Associate degree in Health Information Management (HIM)

Preferred - Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management (HIM)

Work Experience :

Minimum - Five (5) years of progressive acute care hospital inpatient coding experience

Experience with performing coding quality reviews/audits and analysis

Preferred -

-More than five (5) years of inpatient coding experience in an academic medical center.

-Instructional experience in a classroom setting (in-person or virtual)

-Supervisory experience in a coding setting

Certifications :

Minimum - AHIMA Certification: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

Preferred - Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) with a CCS credential and 'AHIMA ICD-10-CM/PCS Train the Trainer certification'
