Job Description:

Nemours is seeking a Pharmacy Logistics Technician to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, DE.

This Pharmacy Logistics Technician position is responsible for completion of routine pharmacy tasks within the Inpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy Department of the Nemours Children's Health-Delaware (NCH-DE). The position is responsible for assisting in the delivery of medications, medication expiration date inspections, receiving ordered medications, replenishment of inventory including automated medication dispensing unit refills, cleaning pharmacy area and other delegated tasks from pharmacy management that are non-clinical.

1. Performs various functions associated with the NCH-DE drug distribution system and demonstrates familiarity with the general duties and responsibilities including knowledge, competency and understanding of the position to which they are assigned including but not limited to Epic and Pyxis functionality, unit dose packaging, conducting pharmacy department, nursing unit, and ambulatory clinic medication expiration inspections, retrieving recalled medications, stock inventory maintenance and replenishment, code cart process, and the selling of prescriptions at POS, delivery (Meds to Beds) of prescriptions, and fielding phone calls in the Outpatient Pharmacy.

2. Medication Delivery. Pharmacy products are distributed accurately, with the appropriate quantity and at the time the product is needed during hourly medication and Batch deliveries.

o Check all doses remaining in patient bin: multi-dose drugs, inhalers, new doses, prns. Check expiration date. Alert pharmacist to replace expired medications.

o Check expiration date of all patient specific medications including IVs, POs and refrigerated items. Return all expired items to the pharmacy.

o Remove discontinued medication from pharmacy return bin and return to pharmacy.

o Return all expired /unauthorized medication to pharmacy (i.e. Home medication of discharged patient, medication removed from Pyxis)

o Remove non-pharmacy items from medication refrigerator (lab tubes/specimens, non-pharmacy formula) and give to nurse

o Insulin Vials- Remove any dated vials from refrigerator and place in patient bin or other proper storage location

o Delivers medication on an hourly basis to the appropriate storage area (med bins, refrigerator) on the nursing unit with 100% accuracy.

o Delivers medication to the appropriate patient bin on nursing unit to assure the correct drug is available for administration to the patient.

o Initiates special deliveries of medications to assure that the turnaround time for all uncomplicated medication orders and for all stat medication orders does not exceed 1 hour and 15 minutes respectively, 100% of situations.

o Retrieves all medications that are discontinued or expired from nursing units at time of bin exchange and hourly deliveries.

3. Inventory Control

o Kanban or Epic Willow Inventory system is adhered to 100% of time.

o Maintains and organizes inventory supply in a manner, which minimizes inventory storage cost, wastage, and stock-outs. Ensures inventory is rotated properly, stored in appropriate conditions and location with 100% accuracy.

o Complete monthly medication expiration dating assignments in a timely manner. Identify and reorder expired medications inventory and ensures that stock is stored in accordance with manufacturer requirements.

o Assures the proper replacement of prescription drugs to stock upon requisitions from various departments of the hospital either manually or through the Pyxis System.

o Ensures the secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances.

o Document every transaction completely and accurately.

o No generation of discrepancies in the C2 Safe, Pyxis MedStation, or Inventory Logs.

o Ensure the destruction of returned controlled substance continuous medication infusions.

o Ensures secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances on a regular basis. Maintains inventory records on narcotics and other forms of drugs as required by law.

o Performs inventory counts of controlled substances on safes as per policy and procedures.

Requirements

HS Diploma or equivalent

1 year pharmacy technician experience preferred; Hospital Pharmacy Experience preferred; Children's Hospital Pharmacy Experience preferred; or 1 year of hospital experience as Nemours associate
