Site Safety Manager


The Site Safety Manager will plan, implement, create, evaluate, coordinate, assess and monitor the corporate/client efforts toward accident and fire prevention and the control of environmental hazards through established safety and health programs designed to comply with appropriate federal, state and local regulatory agencies.


The position will act in an advisory capacity by providing information and training to all levels.  This will include management, supervision and field level personnel.  Ability to lead Safety Technicians. Continual monitoring of work habits and conditions will be required in order to develop and recommend changes.


Administrative controls such as mandatory recordkeeping, reporting, auditing and insurance interaction will be required of this position.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities 



  • Facilitate site safety inspections and corrects any deficiencies, trains new employees in Austin and OSHA safety policies, and assists in setting up and maintaining the SWPPP for the job. 

  • Provide mandatory Austin safety training to Austin personnel (Safety Management, OSHA 10-Hour, OSHA Refresher, Competent Person Training, etc.).

  • Interact with project managers and superintendents to help identify possible hazards.  Assist in the administration of the safety and DBO2 programs for the jobsite and illustrates the changes in regulations and procedures. 

  • May accompany an OSHA or Division of Workers Comp (DWC) safety representative during a jobsite inspection. 

  • Attend seminars, lectures, and training classes to maintain all applicable certifications in safety-related subjects.  Consult technical references such as OSHA Standards, EPA, or ANSI at frequent intervals to ensure that answers to safety problems are correct. 

  • Assist Safety Director in conducting seminars, project interviews, committee meetings, project start-up meetings, accident investigations, and audits 

  • Administer the Corporate/Client safety, health and environmental programs at the site level.

  • Advise site management in the safety, health and environmental areas.

  • Conduct surveys, audits, investigations, and gather information and data as may be required.

  • Implement, evaluate and administer the safety program to address inadequacies within a program to include the creation and presentation of training programs for management, supervision or employees.

  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and regulations.

  • Evaluate and administer company policies and procedures concerning safety, health and environmental matters.

  • Initiate and maintain safety awareness programs and foster such programs to improve awareness.

  • Administer or create special safety, accident prevention, housekeeping, environmental and other safety related programs for site locations as needed.

  • Provide guidance to management through interpretation of the company/client safety requirements.

  • Inspect, monitor and evaluate project safety programs for value and effectiveness.

  • Develop programs that will address inadequacies in the safety and health program.

  • Maintain liaison with the clients, safety representatives, the safety and health community in the area, and site management.

  • Conduct investigations of project accidents and incidents that may require litigation and obtain and protect collected data.

  • Maintain records, reports and documents that may be required to meet corporate or regulatory requirements.

  • Administer a pre-job management/safety orientation for all new employees.

  • Conduct or direct and assure regular inspections of the workplace to evaluate for accident and fire prevention measures.

  • Analyze safety problems and recommend solution to those problems.

  • Perform routine inspections, monitoring, and analysis of work areas.

  • Maintain a high knowledge level of all applicable safety, health, or environmental standards.

  • Maintain liaison with each project location’s safety department for specific directives of special circumstances or variations of safety policies.

  • Monitor Worker’s Compensation activities to include reporting, tracking, communications, loss prevention, loss control and interface as needed.

  • Maintain proper documentation on employees warned or cited for safety violations.

  • Recommend solutions or clarifications to situations concerning safety and health.

  • Work with supervision to evaluate personnel for competency prior to designation or assignment as “Competent Persons.”

  • Other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications Required for this Position:


Education: Preferred two (2) years related degree in Occupational Safety and Health: Minimum having an EHS accreditation through NCCER, COSS or CSST equivalent.  OSHA 30 required.


Experience: Five to seven years of progressive experience in the field of safety and health.  A minimum of two years in a supervisor or management level.  (Combination of work and education experience.)  Worked as a Safety Coordinator for a minimum of one year.  Significant experience should be in industrial facilities (chemical plants, refineries, etc.)


Must pass drug screen and background check, as condition of employment.
