Product Manager (Data Warehouse) - REMOTE

Why you want to work at Flexion:

We're looking for a Product Manager (Data Warehouse) with an unwavering passion for designing secure, easy-to-use applications. Most of the work we do is on large-scale, enterprise-wide systems (both commercial and government)-this project includes the development and maintenance of a data warehouse system which supports the management and oversight of a large federal agency.

At Flexion (an agile software company that's been delivering excellence for over 24 years), our company culture is built on autonomy, trust, and transparency. We empower teams to remain autonomous and self-directed by hiring people who can solve complex problems by functioning collaboratively-this means lending a hand and flexing your multi-skilled muscles (business application software engineering, database engineering, DevOps, security engineering, etc.) as needed. Every member within a cross-functional team is a leader who takes responsibility for the entire team's success, which mirrors the company's overall flat structure.

What the job looks like:

You'll be part of a multi-disciplinary, agile application development team tasked with building out a data warehouse and console for self service. The project work is primarily remote but may require some client on-site work estimated at < 10%.

  • Support the team as a servant leader
  • Consulting with stakeholders to recommend solutions and provide them with the information they need to make strategic product decisions via 1-pagers/PRDs (product requirements documentation)
  • Writing user stories that describe the requirements necessary to complete the work, and user acceptance testing to confirm the work was done right.
  • Track dependencies across the organization.
  • Advocate for eventual customers of the data warehouse.
  • Maintain an updated team roadmap based on quarterly goals, priorities and performance metrics
  • Building outcome-based product radars to guide outreach and digital experience team roadmaps
  • Translating product goals into a data analysis and communication strategy that is accessible to both business and technical audiences
  • Developing strategies to find and derive information to improve user experiences
  • Understanding government security and compliance hurdles
  • Developing strategies to communicate the business value of the team's work and success in meeting the product goals
  • Working with stakeholders in a way that garners trust and facilitates prioritization and decision-making
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand needs, constraints, risk, and alignment with organizational strategy and priorities
  • Fostering a shared understanding of the product throughout the product development team and the broader organization through the creation of user stories and other supporting documents
  • Work closely with the Product Owner to ensure the product and the backlog are managed in a high-quality, agile manner
  • Ensure stories are well-defined and work with the Product Owner to ensure high-quality stories
  • Help the Product Owner and Development Team have a Product Mindset (self-funding frame of mind)
  • Coach the Development Team in Scrum, self-organization, cross-functionality, and small vertical slices, as necessary

Why we want to hire you:

You thrive working in a dynamic environment and think, design, and strategize with the knowledge that things will change. You want to work with team members that challenge you every day. You demonstrate an unwavering commitment to product excellence.

You have:
  • 8+ years of technical product leadership experience
  • A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Strong collaborative and communication skills
  • A background in a data warehouse/analysis kind of function
  • An understanding of data warehousing and/or data analysis
  • Knowledge and experience with several of the following:
    • Creating or improving an end-to-end user experience.
    • Evaluating and implementing engagement metrics -- action rates, unsubscribe rates, monitoring programmatic outcomes, etc.
    • Building enterprise data warehouses, data marts or data lake solutions
    • Data Security and audit experience
At Flexion, we live by these principles:
  • Speak openly and honestly with your colleagues and clients about problems and proposed solutions
  • Welcome and handle changing requirements and priorities with little or no warning
  • Collaborate online in small groups about 50% of the time
  • Encourage simple and minimal solutions that keep options open
  • Expect and vocally advocate for quality first
  • Learn new practices and techniques as the situation demands
  • Ensure the teams develop demonstrable software every week or two
  • Do what needs to be done to deliver the product or project without ego or attitude
  • Dig deep to find the root causes of problems so we can create the right solutions
  • Relentlessly improve yourself, your team, and your processes
