Job Description:

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at Washington University in St. Louis seeks to hire a full-time lecturer in Italian, on the teaching track, starting in August 2024 for the 2024-2025 academic year.

This role requires duties equivalent to a full-time teaching load, which may include a combination of teaching and other departmental service and advising as appropriate. Teaching-track faculty in Romance Languages and Literatures regularly have an assignment of three courses per semester in addition to a service component.

Initial appointments at the rank of Lecturer are renewed on an annual basis, and reappointment is contingent upon a successful annual evaluation and review. Teaching track faculty will not be evaluated on or expected to engage in research or scholarship as part of their appointment.

Each year Washington University publishes a Safety and Security brochure that details what to do and whom to contact in an emergency. This report also publishes the federally required annual security and fire safety reports, containing campus crime and fire statistics as well as key university policies and procedures. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D./terminal degree in Italian or a related field by the time of appointment. We seek a colleague able to teach at all levels of our undergraduate program, whose teaching interests complement existing departmental strengths. We particularly welcome applicants with expertise in Cinema, Medical Humanities/Medical Italian, or Food Culture. Experience or interest in leading study abroad programs is also welcome.
