Technician 2
Title: Technician 2 - Commercial Security
Reports To: Project Manager
Supervises: Assistant Technicians and Contract Workers
Classification: Non-exempt
Position Summary:
The Lead Technician works under the supervision of a Field Superintendent and the Project Manager in the installation of Access Control, Surveillance (CCTV), and Alarm systems from initial wiring to final completion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs all duties with honesty, integrity, and the pursuit of excellence. • Works diligently with limited supervision to achieve completion of projects on schedule with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications. • Leads large, complex jobs from start to finish managing multiple installation teams. • Actively looks for ways to perform the job and lead more effectively and efficiently. • Pulls and suspends wire according to code in both new construction and retrofit applications. • Tones and labels wire. • Communicates effectively with the Field Superintendent, Project Manager, and the Customer/GC to maintain the construction schedule and identify and solve problems in the field. • Effectively utilizes provided technology to ensure Project Managers and other stakeholders receive detailed updates as projects progress. • Always follows safe work practices, and calls attention to and/or rectifies hazards in the field. • Coordinates with, supervises and back-checks the work of subcontractors as needed. • Maintains an organized and clean job site, including all documentation as required. • Regularly seek opportunities to grow in the knowledge of systems installed and skill in their installation. Agrees to be a lifetime learner.
Other Duties and Responsibilities: • From time to time may be called upon to assist in other divisions including but not limited to: Commercial Access Control, Residential/Commercial Service, Residential Security, Healthcare, and Education. • Attends scheduled company meetings. • Attends training classes held either onsite or offsite as required. • Occasionally travels to job sites over 2 hours away that require overnight stays.
Requirements:
Must submit to and pass pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens as mandated by the Tennessee Drug Free Workplace program. • Must be able to become a registered alarm employee under the requirements of the State of Tennessee. • Must have clear and effective oral and written communication skills. • Must have basic knowledge of how to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings. • Must be able to pull and suspend wire according to code. Must be able to safely use hand and power tools. • Must be able to effectively communicate with on-site supervisors to address minor problems that may arise in the field.
Physical Demands:
• Must be able to regularly move up to 30 pounds, and frequently move up to 75 pounds. • Must be able to ascend, descend, and work atop ladders of varying heights, and exceeding 30 feet. • Must be able to distinguish colors and sound tones. • Must be able to recognize horn and/or warning devices at a distance of 30 yards. • Must be able to observe and detect signs of dangerous obstacles at a distance of 30 yards and to verify written information at a close range.
Work Conditions:
• Work is conducted indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and within extreme temperature ranges. • From time to time the technician will be required to enter confined areas such as crawl spaces or attics. Tools: • Technician should be able to personally furnish a complete set of hand tools necessary for this position. • SWC will supply corded and cordless power tools.
