Job Summary

The Coordinator, Engineering Career Services, delivers career and professional development support to undergraduate and graduate students in the Grainger College of Engineering. Responsibilities include delivering career coaching through one-on-one appointments, group presentations, and student programming. They support student-to-career integration by incorporating career education into classes, student organizations, and college-wide events. Additionally, they facilitate communication with recruiters and employers interested in hiring Grainger Engineering students, providing recruiting strategies and opportunities.



Duties & Responsibilities



Career Coaching & Education


  • Coach students in the Grainger College of Engineering on career-driven topics such as career preparation/readiness skills, search strategies, resumes/cover letters, interviewing, social media and networking optimization, job offers, and negotiations.

  • Conduct resume critiques and practice interviews.

  • Mentor students on identifying and developing their professional skills through class projects, student organizations involvement, leadership roles, and other involvement.

  • Educate students on professional work opportunities and employment trends.

  • Utilize and support career-related technologies and tools.

Career Integration

  • Support the expansion of Engineering Career Services (ECS) reach and foster ongoing academic and career collaboration with key departmental liaisons and advisors.

  • Assist with embedding peer advising within departments.

  • Support the delivery of the "Resume Labs" series, a peer-led weekend offering for students to update collateral materials, practice interviewing, and receive peer mentoring on career development and search strategies.

  • Participate in planned college-wide events (e.g., Commencement, Engineering Open House, Choose/Explore Grainger), including evenings and weekends as needed.

Employer Engagement

  • Serve as point of contact for designated employers. Respond to inquiries from employers regarding recruiting Grainger Engineering students. Guide employers on the use of career management platforms for posting jobs, events, and other student engagement opportunities.

  • Consult with employers on best practices tailored to their specific talent needs. Share event information and recruiting resources.

  • Identify employer needs and facilitate introductions to appropriate student groups, departments, corporate relations contacts, and campus partners.

Operational Support & Projects

  • Collaborate with teammates in ECS on career events, projects, and publications for students and employers. This includes career fairs, meetings, receptions, resources, and speaker programs.

  • Collect and maintain student records, including meetings and student progress, as well as internship and full-time employment data.

  • Assist with designated administrative processes (e.g., respond to student emails and voicemails, Handshake, Marketing and Communication).

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications



• Bachelor's degree.
• A total of two (2) years (24 months) in education, training and/or work experience in recruiting, Human Resources, career services, and/or academic advising.



Preferred Qualifications



• Master's Degree
• Demonstrated experience advising students in a university career services office.
• Demonstrated experience working with students, including international students.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exemplary customer service, communication, and collaboration.

  • Organization and time management.

  • Presentation, professionalism, and project management skills.

  • Knowledge of the job market for college students with engineering disciplines.

  • Knowledge of career assessment tools, such as Handshake.

  • Proficiency with web-based resources, software, and social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.)

  • Student coaching, advising, and mentoring (i.e., establishes trust and credibility, identifies students' needs, listens, and supports, offers appropriate action steps and resources, follows up)

  • Critical Thinking/Problem Solving (i.e., maintains calmness and composure when dealing with stressful situations, uses information and context to assess a situation, identifies logical, practical actions, finds, and corrects root causes, solicits support from relevant resources)

  • Ability to work flexible and extended hours, including some nights and weekends.


Appointment Information


This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The minimum salary for this position is $54,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Work authorization is not available for this position.
