Recruiting AmeriCorps Members for the MGH Center for Immigrant Health and the MGH Asylum Clinic



The MGH Center for Immigrant Health and MGH Asylum Clinic are recruiting two (2) AmeriCorps Members as part of the MIRA Coalition's New American Integration Program (NAIP) for the 2024-2025 service year. AmeriCorps members who provide a year of service receive a weekly stipend, an education award, health insurance, substantial opportunities for training and professional development, and other benefits. Work schedules are full-time and include a hybrid option. Position descriptions are below:


The MGH Asylum Clinic (AC) was founded in 2017 to provide forensic medical and psychologic evaluations to survivors of persecution seeking asylum in the United States and to educate the medical community on caring for asylum seekers and refugees. The AC trains and coordinates volunteer physicians, mental health professionals, and advanced practice providers to provide no-cost evaluations to asylum seekers. The AmeriCorps Asylum Clinic Resource Navigator will provide telephonic outreach to individuals referred to the MGH Asylum Clinic to complete voluntary Social Determinants of Health (SDH) screenings, assessing for needs related to housing, food, job search and job training, English-language or other educational classes, childcare, health insurance, health care, etc. The AC Resource Navigator will provide guidance, coaching, and support to a panel of individuals with identified social needs, helping them to identify and access benefits and community resources to meet their goals. This position will assist with building out the AC resource library, creating patient-facing handouts, and training volunteers and other staff. Bilingual Spanish-speaking candidates are preferred for the AC Resource Navigator role.


The MGH Center for Immigrant Health was founded in 2020 to foster excellence in clinical care, education, advocacy, and research to improve the health and wellbeing of immigrants, across all departments and clinical sites at MGH and within the broader community. The CIH provides a variety of programming to serve the needs of both immigrant patients and staff. The AmeriCorps Center for Immigrant Health (CIH) Resource Navigator will receive referrals from MGH inpatient, outpatient, and emergency departments for newly arrived immigrant patients with identified social needs, including food, housing, job search and job training, childcare, English-language classes, and legal/immigration resources.


Both MGH AmeriCorps Resource Navigator positions require a passion for working with newly arrived immigrant populations, flexibility, emotional maturity, strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to work independently, and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. MGH AmeriCorps members will have robust opportunities for professional growth, including attending departmental staff meetings, grand rounds, conferences, and trainings.

Qualifications

The CIH Resource Navigator will provide guidance, support, and coaching to help these patients access public benefits and community resources to meet their goals. Bilingual candidates who speak Spanish or Haitian Creole are preferred for the CIH Resource Navigator role.
