Who we are looking for

We are seeking a Technical Product Development Assistant Vice President to help us take our BI offering to the next level. The successful candidate will drive the design and implementation of a new data platform based on Databricks and PowerBI. This will also include engaging with various stakeholders to collect functional and non-functional requirements. Besides, the candidate might be asked to assist the team with implementing additional solutions for clients internally and externally. These solutions involve creating and deploying integrations for clients utilizing messaging standards (incl. FIX, SWIFT and custom XML formats) over MQ, API's, SFTP, TCP/IP and other protocols. Typically solutions include a combination of messaging, batch processing and data transformation, and are commonly written in Python.

This role can be performed in a hybrid model, where you can balance work from home and office to match your needs and role requirements.

The specific product Fund Connect is State Street's market-leading global electronic trading platform for Money Market Funds, Primary Market ETFs, Liquidity Instruments and Investment Funds. Fund Connect provides efficiencies to the entire pre- and post-trade lifecycle across multiple asset classes. This role resides within the Fund Connect Business Integration Team, who support Sales and Relationship teams in a development/solutioning capacity.

What you will be responsible for

As Technical Product Development Assistant Vice President, you will


  • Design, implement, and maintain our next generation data platform

  • Build data pipelines to unify data from different system in our data lake and prepare it for consumption by end users

  • Design and implement optimized data models for usage in PowerBI

  • Design and implement reports and dashboards in PowerBI based on stakeholder requirements

  • Occasionally assist the team with implementing client integrations using Python

  • Contribute to longer-term strategic and transformational technology initiatives

  • Project manage which includes troubleshooting and escalation both internally and with clients

  • Document work, manage expectations and communicate progress on ongoing engagements

  • Work autonomously with confidence in a fast-moving, complex technical environment.

  • Build solid relationships with colleagues across multiple functional groups of differing levels of seniority


What we value

These skills will help you succeed in this role


  • 5+ years of experience as a data engineer or BI developer in a financial services environment or similar.

  • Deep knowledge of SQL, database design techniques as well as extensive experience working with relational database management systems such as Oracle and PostgreSQL.

  • Extensive experience using Python, Spark, and Databricks including a solid understanding of the theoretical underpinnings.

  • Strong knowledge of commonly used data modelling techniques (e.g. star schemas).

  • Substantial hands on experience with a BI visualisation tools such as PowerBI.

  • Experience with FX, Equities, Rates and/or Mutual Funds products.

  • Knowledge of common messaging protocols and payloads (SWIFT/FIX/REST/MQ/Kafka).

  • Outstanding attention to detail.

  • A desire to solve complex business problems with creative technical solutions.

  • Basic Unix & Linux skills.

  • Sense of urgency, natural curiosity to learn and ability to constructively question the status quo.

  • Highly self-motivated with exceptional integrity.

  • Eagerness to collaborate as part of a larger team.

  • Confident & clear communicator.

  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts to any audience.


Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands on developer experience of object-oriented design pattern knowledge and implementation experience using Python or Java (Required).

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics or Finance-related field (Required).

  • Knowledge of workflow management frameworks such as Apache Airflow (Preferred).

  • Knowledge of cloud computing infrastructure, such as AWS (Preferred).

Salary Range:
$90,000 - $142,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
