As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

New England Public Media is a multi-media organization producing and broadcasting radio, TV and digital content to  western New England from our studios in Springfield, MA. Our public radio service offers a mix of NPR news, classical and jazz. 

JOB OVERVIEW

Students will work alongside NEPR’s experienced news team, learn the basics and produce stories to air on the radio and appear on NEPM's website and social channels. This position is based in NEPM's Springfield office.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Pitch story ideas to the Radio News Director and Managing Editor.

  • Work independently and with other reporters to cover daily and enterprise stories in western Massachusetts and beyond.

  • Schedule and perform interviews in the studio, by telephone and in the field.

  • Report, voice and mix spot and feature-length stories for broadcast.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE


  • Interested in journalism and public affairs

  • Familiarity with news writing required

  • Familiarity with digital audio production preferred

  • Ability to work under deadline

  • Access to a car and ability to drive is preferred but not required

  • Collaborative approach and nature

  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work and presentation

  • Willingness to learn

  • Punctual

OB-STATUS

Paid Internship $17/hour (Part-time)

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

NEPM internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many different fields of study, from TV and radio production to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative areas.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM


  • Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wi-Fi.

  • Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.
