The Software Engineering Manager will have full life cycle responsibility for a software product in the CRDN portfolio and oversight of a team of software engineers who develop and support firmware, embedded, GUI and application software for stand-alone medical device. You will be responsible for department processes, talent recruitment, performance and development, resource planning and prioritizing and directing the responsibilities of your team. This position will report to the director of product development and be part of a department of engineers and technicians focused on capital equipment development.

*This position will be required to sit onsite at 8200 Coral Sea Street NE, Mounds View, MN 55112 Monday through Thursday with the ability to work remotely on Fridays.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of software engineers for capital equipment.
  • Represent your team to the wider organization.
  • Lead the Scrum Team through the SDLC for medical devices following IEC 62304/82304.
  • Work with different stakeholders and Cross-function team to prioritize team work according to business needs.
  • Determine and prioritize features, enhancements, and fixes based on user feedback, market analysis, and business value.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather input, provide updates, and align product strategies with their needs and expectations.
  • Decompose and elaborate on feature requirements and management of team backlog.
  • Guide SW development scrum team in sprint and increment planning, championing, and supervising value-focused capabilities.
  • Balance and drive consensus on inputs from multiple stakeholders, anchoring priorities in direct user research
  • Participate in Risk Assessment and requirements development.
  • Participate in the documentation of the software including architecture and design detail, unit testing, defect tracking and reports.
  • Cross function team collaboration with HW and systems partners, including Quality, System V&V...etc.
  • Follow Medical device regulations (IEC 62304, IEC 82304, FDA...etc.)
  • Accountable for the quality, robustness, predictability, and completeness of the team's output, including tracking and reporting software quality metrics.
  • Accountable for your team's compliance with internal design controls and medical device regulations and standards
  • Prepare team members for certification and regulatory audits. May represent the team's work in audits.
  • Drive departmental excellence, proficiency, best practice, and consistency across project teams.
  • Provide leadership in solving engineering problems and fostering creativity and innovation in design and problem solutions.
  • Anticipate the need for new development tools, methods, technologies, and processes.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience leading agile software development teams
  • Hands-on experience in developing, debugging, and troubleshooting SW issues.
  • Ability to distill software requirements from system requirements.
  • Previous experience as Product Owner, Software Manager, or Software Program Manager
  • Experience in providing guidance, coaching, and training to the team in Agile best practices.
  • Agile SAFe training/experience
  • Cogent, concise written communication
  • Familiarity of object-oriented design and modern C++ language.
  • Experience with an embedded Linux Environment
  • Experience in software architecture design, writing design documents, creating flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts.
  • Understanding and appreciation of SDLC process and tools (e.g. JIRA, Bitbucket, Gitlab, Jenkins.)
  • Experience in the test-driven development methodology and unit test.
  • Experience in scoping and cost estimates for projects.
  • Engagement with and overseeing 3rd party software design partners as needed.
