Job Summary:



The LPS Controls Estimating Engineer is responsible for estimating costs and generating proposal documents for the electrical and controls modifications to existing material handling systems and may include designing controls for new small to medium size systems. The engineer will be responsible for the overall controls system design, ensuring that the system meets functional and customer requirements.



Responsibilities:



  • Utilize the existing FORTNA costing toolset to generate electrical and control system costs for new material handling systems, modifications to existing systems and change orders.

  • Collaborate with internal departments as required to estimate costs for controls engineering, electrical installation, project management, etc.

  • Estimating other project costs such as freight, permits, etc.

  • Evaluate customer Request for Quote ("RFQ") documents and ensure that our costing is inclusive of their requirements and specifications.

  • Generate RFQ documentation for external material and labor suppliers.

  • Generate proposal documentation in Microsoft Word and Excel formats.

  • Analyze system costing in comparison to previous estimates and present the findings to executive management.

  • Lead customer design review meetings.

  • Lead executive level meetings to review project scope and costing.

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of customer specifications.

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of various conveyor control components such as VFDs, photo eyes, PLCs, etc.

  • Analyze system layouts and flow rates as required to ensure proper control system design.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:



  • Ability to generate, analyze and modify AutoCAD 2D drawings.

  • Ability to analyze Allen Bradley PLC programs.

  • Familiarity with control component hardware such as VFDs, photo eyes, PLCs, etc.

  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as ProfiNet, Ethernet/IP, etc.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to communicate, both orally and written, at all levels of the business and with customers.

  • Ability to perform detail-oriented work in a timely manner, ensuring deadlines are achieved.

  • Ability to keep excellent records and details of documentation of the entire phase of the proposal process.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time with changing priorities.

  • Ability to coordinate and lead executive level project cost review meetings, as well as customer design review meetings.

  • Ability to select the proper controls equipment based on the application and customer specifications.

  • Ability to travel to job sites and attend customer meetings. Approximately 5% travel




Education and Experience:



  • Associates or bachelor's degree in electrical/controls/industrial engineering or a related field

  • 5+ years of experience in the material handling industry

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience estimating project costs

  • Basic knowledge of material handling control systems (VFDs, PLCs, etc.)

  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor or NavisWorks is a plus.

  • Experience in the distribution & fulfillment industry is a plus.

  • Experience with the aftermarket side of the material handling industry is a plus, but not required.



The base salary range for this role is $85,000 to $127,500. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.
