Job Description:

The Shipyard Equipment & Maintenance Assistant is responsible for assisting with tasks to successfully achieve the facilitys overall cleanliness and day to day needs. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a group or alone, assisting other trade departments as required. The Shipyard Equipment & Maintenance Assistant may be referred too as Facilities Assistant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reports to Facility manager or Lead Man for daily work tasks.Assist in maintain spare parts listAssist in the care and maintenance of rolling stock. forklifts, small engines, etc.Assist in the care and preventive maintenance of all office, rental, and trades work golf carts. Batteries, tire pressures, etc.Assist in the maintenance of Dry Dock equipment. Pump Room, Caisson, and any external devices.Assist with all maintenance on the Ship Lift and Transfer Cars.Assist in yearly maintenance inspections of Ship Lift and SEDCON systems.Responsible for some repair and maintenance of main office building and out buildings.Assist with maintenance of 5 cooling towers.
Participate in Competent Persons Training during required timeframe set by management Clean Floating Docks (Power Washing). Sand, Scrape and Paint facility equipment. Cut, weed, trim grass. Keep grounds swept, using powered sweeper or broom. Responsible for keeping following areas clean and organized at all times: HAZMAT and Tote storage, rear pipe shop, Recycle Bin, Transfer Car Pad and Rails, front Roll Off area. Limited pressure washing duties on vessels. Operate forklift, scissor lift, man lift, sweeper, lawn mower, and leaf blower Available to work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed Other duties as assigned by Manager

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training. Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area. Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.

Technical and Physical Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required 2 years relevant experience preferred or mechanically inclined.Some small engine maintenance and repair experience is a plus.Some experience working with hydraulics is a plusSome diesel engine experience is a plus.Be able to operate all equipment being maintained.Be able to work overtime, weekends, and paid holidays when needed.Willing to work in ALL weather conditions.Ability to ascend and descend a ladder.Ability to work in confined spaces.Practice the safe and proper handling of Hazardous and Non Hazardous Waste. Used oil, coolant, solvents, etc.
