The lab technician is responsible for utilizing accepted methods to sampling and testing of asphalt, emulsion and other materials with the purpose of evaluating quality and process control and/or acceptance.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Provide support to chemists in the lab to help meet goals and objectives set by management
Carry out reactions, distillations, and purifications at the lab bench, as directed by supervisor
Work collaboratively with a team of chemists, engineers, and lab technicians, to jointly solve problems and accomplish team objectives
Operate pilot equipment (20 liter scale) to produce larger samples of select products for physical property characterizations, market validation, regulatory testing, and other needs
Conduct research and participate in technical training programs, as necessary, to facilitate lab efforts and increase knowledge base
Thoroughly document work performed in the lab, including updated notebooks, generating reports, batch records, etc., as required by management
Always work in a safe and responsible manner
Requirements:
Relevant professional experience includes any supporting technical role to a synthetic organic chemist, process chemist, or other related laboratory professional
Possess outstanding organizational skills.
Impeccable communication skills with both Internal and external stakeholders.
The ability to build strong Interpersonal relationships and partner across multiple levels in an organization.
Self-starter that can take the Initiative and complete assignments in a self-directed manner.
The ability to manage multiple projects of varying scope and size and with competing deadlines.
Strong Interest In chemist and manufacturing operations. An Inquisitive mind coupled with a hands-on, humble and personable approach.
Capable of interacting successfully in variety of environments, I.e. office, plant, lab.
High degree of self-confidence, poise, maturity, discretion, and diplomacy
Sound problem solver who can quickly process complex Information and present it clearly and simply.
Knowledgeable of API standards, GPA, EPA and ASTM methods considered a plus.
